BOURDAIN (voiceover): I found myself surrounded by discarded objects. An empty soda can, a dead battery. Life becomes death. But death can become life. The simmering pot with its spicy aroma in front of me is proof. BOURDAIN: What's in this dish? ME: Pikmin BOURDAIN: Pikmin. Oh man that's good.

I just put 2 & 2 together that Brian Poindexter is running against the “embattled” Max Miller who is alleged to have abused his wife and daughter. All the “hurr hurr his name is pointdexter, what does he know about being a manly man” comments seem extra dumb now.
feels like a lot of folks are getting rage-baited by a screenshot of an Atlantic article when they should remember: Don’t Read The Atlantic. He seems fine to me, he’s endorsed by a ton of unions, and has already been a politician. poindexterforcongress.com www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
Everyone’s expectations got skewed over the past week but Abdul El-Sayed getting $70 million spent against him in a state he lost a primary by like 20 points eight years ago and still winning last night is probably the most impressive electoral accomplishment of the decade.
[extremely Dave Wasserman voice] I’ve seen enough. It’s time for many of you to go to bed.
This is rough but I think it talks about a lot of what is missing from the Cunningham/WNBA discourse. Namely, that trans people are not hypothetical thought experiments. They are real people who are being genocided by our government & any coverage that doesn't center that reality misses the mark.
the answer is always to disavow it

I called & emailed a bunch of orgs. We have strollers, high chairs, etc in good/great condition. They only want new items. Probably for liability but it’s frustrating. I’ll have to check out the free groups as mentioned in the comments, but I agree that it sometimes seems easier to just toss.
I have so much good condition, child-based *stuff* my kids have outgrown (clothes, toys, entire bedrom set) and this fucking society makes it SO FUCKING HARD for me to give these items away and basically encourages me to place it in a landfill and I fucking hate everything.

We have so many things to be angry at the management of this website about we don’t need to let Verge selectively choose the thing they know is gonna make us the angriest and spend all day being worked up about it.

I was gonna say, whenever I see artificial intelligence in a sci-fi story or novel, it's almost always the villain. How many Star Trek episodes literally just had "evil computer" as the antagonist?
starting to think we've taken the "torment nexus" analogy a bit too far
Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

One part of Trump's $22 billion makeover of Dulles that's been missed is his big, beautiful, world-record 32,000-spot parking garage. That's *way* more parking than recent estimates show the airport needs, and it would tower over the historic terminal: www.notus.org/metro/dulles...
