Oh balls. Ski Sunday was one of the ways our family got through the darkness of February. Baaaah.
New Origin Story on Section 28: the law which halted progress on gay rights and drove it into reverse. Nearly every moment in this story - the moral panic, the press hysteria, the bad actors, the political cowardice - resembles what is happening now to trans people.
🚨NEW EPISODE🚨 @dorianlynskey.bsky.social and @iandunt.bsky.social tell the story of Section 28, the 1988 legislation that cast a chilling shadow over the lives of gay men and lesbians in the UK for the next 15 years ➡️ linktr.ee/originstoryp...

I don't think Lucy Mangan watched all the way to the end of "The Great ADHD Myth?" before giving it her gushing 4* review. If she had she may have seen these just before the credits; it sure does look like the medication works.
We wondered on @cosmicshambles.com podcast whether Professor Katya Rubin knew how her interview was going to be used , well, surprise surprise (remember this was the documentary that Channel 4 boasted was “science led”)
This is something the 'rising #ADHD diagnoses are just big pharma wanting to sell more meds' arguments seem reluctant to explain. If the whole thing is a huge complex plot to sell pills, why would those pills be so rare and hard to get? Like advertising a restaurant only accessible via jetpack
I went off of ADHD meds because their terrible availability meant I was being shunted between methylphenidate variants with no titration period so frequently, they were doing more harm than good overall. Are ‘poor supply chains’ a social construct too? I’m lost as to what any of this really means
Some Questions for Channel 4 and its #ADHD Documentary A @cosmicshambles.com podcast, featuring @robinince.bsky.social Sarah Turner, Gina Rippon, and myself, about just how dumb and dangerous the Channel 4 doc really is, even from just the publicity alone podcasts.apple.com/ie/podcast/s...

So your reviewer gave a four-star review to a "documentary" that featured a kid with ADHD being taken off his medication because his mom "didn't like" it. Would you give four stars to a program that featured taking a diabetic kid off insulin? Leave ADHD kids alone. What is wrong with you people?
Did the Kent hiring committee do due diligence on Goodwin's claim to have been "the first in his family to go to University" before hiring him? We need an enquiry! (This is satire)

Wow who’d have thunk it, vaccines work 🤔 Great news to celebrate.
Brexit is costing us £2 billion a week Let’s ditch it and fund Britain instead and get freedoms to travel, work, study in Europe again. #BreJoinEU #RejoinEU #Breturn
Fleeing your home country, and everything you know, because of war, violence or persecution takes incredible courage. To everyone who has recently arrived in London seeking safety: you are welcome here.
This is how communities show up for each other. Do read this by Nicola Browne from Act Now👇
“People in Northern Ireland have muscle memory of violence, murder and riots in our not-very-distant past. We also have muscle memory on how to organise and help each other through.
This has nothing to do with stopping crime. It is to do with a global far-right movement, coordinated on X, organised by some of the most powerful men in the world from Silicon Valley to the White House inews.co.uk/opinion/fara...
Condemning riots isn't enough. We need policy action, including an immediate appraisal of X as a vehicle for coordinating far-right disorder. And we need political leadership, to challenge white nationalism as an idea, not to validate it daily and then complain when it turns violent.
Peter Bradshaw’s @theguardian.com review of Disclosure Day manages to get a spoiler into the first six words of the subtitle. Impressive. Why do I look??

My favourite stat on this is people consistently told pollsters (in surveys commissioned by the Home Office) that immigration from the Caribbean in the 1980s was “too high” when imm from the Caribbean on that period was strongly net negative!
I'm not sure what kind of economic model you get to where a wealth tax is existential for the future of economic growth but zero net immigration is just vibes and social cohesion. When I did economics they taught us that you needed inputs if you wanted outputs but I guess the literature has moved on
wow — the preprint host, arxiv, is banning authors for a year if they submit papers with hallucinated citations 🤖
I find this unsettling: A new study in #Lancet shows that the number of faux citations in scientific articles is on the rise, and #AI is likely to blame. @aniloza.bsky.social reports. www.statnews.com/2026/05/07/l...
"I can't be bought by anybody"... says the man who would say anything you wanted, for a paltry £70 on cameo. If £70 gets an "up the ra!" what does £5m get?
The EU flag is flying at Hungary’s parliament again after Péter Magyar was sworn in as prime minister — the first time it’s been displayed there since Viktor Orbán had it removed in 2014.
At a No 10 briefing today we heard about the government's commitment to "a whole-of-society response to antisemitism”. Asked if this might involve the government leaving X, where antisemitism is not only rife but monetlised, were were told it is "something we always keep under review." So: no.
Denmark's coal-to-wind transition is one of the most dramatic energy transformations of the past three decades. In 1990, coal provided 90% of Danish electricity. Today it is under 3%. Wind now covers roughly 60% of electricity generation. The last coal plant is scheduled to close by 2028.
