Octopus (and others) can still offer an ECO10 tariff that was intended for users of storage heaters. I a saving around 30% over a standard tariff by using my water and heating in the low-rate periods. there are 3 of these in each 24 hours.
Sure, simpler but internet connectivity is great for a fun little project that might even pay for itself. A Raspberry Pi can easily get the 30 minute prices from say Octopus Energy API for the Octopus Agile tariff, work out the most cost efficient time to run the selected washing machine program …

listen, there's nothing uniquely complex about the British "class system" if u know 3 things 1. It's not formalised sociology it's folk wisdom 2. We have vast regional cultural difference we are ignorant of & confuse/conflate w/class 3. No one must admit to having privilege (vs 'working hard') ever.
