You should understand this stuff not as analysis of public opinion - since when did the lads give a fuck about that? - and not even as threats. These are promises: we, the press, are now going to fuck you up, and we won’t stop screaming until your lives are utterly miserable.
I reiterate that it is *incredible* to look at four years of totally open genocide and destruction, and come away with total certainty that it’s the people saying this is criminal, bad and extremely racist, who are wrong and hateful.
Oh just the Labour Prime Minister going on fash TV and conceding their entire argument again, that's probably nothing to worry about.
Jonathan Portes@jdportes.bsky.social · 3w agoThis is a dreadful argument from Burnham. Empirically false - almost 6m people were granted settled status; about 4m are currently resident. More importantly panders to racism/xenophobia, and directly contradicts argument made in his speech about migrant contributions.
Just a whole load of horrifying crimes here where we can’t now say “if only the world knew, if only everyone could see”. The world knows very well and anyone who wants to see, can see just fine.

The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.
