The continental European launch of my book IRELAND IN THE LIFE AND WORK OF C.S. LEWIS (Palgrave Macmillan, 2025) will be taking place today in Budapest, as part of IASIL 2026. Big thanks to Dr. Sonja Lawrenson for leading the launch session! Here’s a recent review of the book from THE IRISH TIMES.

It was great to be back behind the drums for my wife Deirdre Clare’s powerful storytelling/music piece, SHOW SOME EMOTION, live at The International Bar, Dublin. This is our take on the Joan Armatrading classic, “Like Fire”. Shout-out to Eoin O’Halloran on bass & Deirdre herself on piano and vocals!

hilariously i had to be reminded it was shakespeare’s birthday today. anyway it’s a good day as any to tell yous that my book IRISH SHAKESPEARES: GENDER, SEXUALITY, AND PERFORMANCE IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY has been sent into production at Routledge [pre-order link tbc!]

Data centres uses 32% of Ireland's total electricity supply but pay almost less than half of the residential rate. So we're effectively subsidizing tech giants during a cost of living & energy crisis. Meanwhile this Govt continues to cheerlead their expansion & continue to fail in their obligations.

Bild_"The Government’s consistent cheerleading for data centre expansion has reached a point of reckless disconnect from the economic reality of Irish citizens... Irish families are paying nearly double the electricity rates of these industrial facilities, effectively subsidizing the massive energy consumption of global tech giants while struggling with a punishing cost-of-living crisis."

So Fantasy grows out of Romance (medieval) but rejects Romance (contemporary) because for girls, so Romance (contemporary) develops into something increasingly un-Fantastical, and has to be portmanteued back into Fantasy (Romantasy), despite Fantasy being originally Romance...

Hi all, my contract at LMU ends this month and I don't have any options lined up. I know that many of us are in the same situation, but if you hear of any opportunities or projects you think I might be suited to (doesn't have to be in academia) please send me a message or comment below. Thanks!

Seven countries now generate 100% of their electricity from renewable sources, proving the transition is not theoretical but already operational. The barrier is no longer technology, but political will, investment priorities, and the courage to move faster.

I think one of my visceral reactions to the protesters is because they are bullies. Loud, boorish bullies. And I have no time for bullies. The irony is Trump caused the global crisis, and miniTrumps are causing the local one.

Let's not forget classics like this, big part of the problem was the constant minimising of it "You've overreacting, you're overreacting, you've overreacting, you're overreacting, you've overreacting, you're overreacting, you've overreacting, you're overreacting, OH SHIT WAIT YOU WERE ALL RIGHT!"

Mick Clifford: Does Ireland have a problem with right-wing extremism?
Ireland is not immune to racism or bigotry but the GPAHE report is inflating niche groups well above their true stature

As a Jewish historian who works at a university, I think it’s great that an administration committed to destroying “the internal globalist enemy” which is staffed by groyper antisemites is collecting lists of Jews. Can’t see any potential downside here at all.

Federal Judge Approves Trump Effort to Extract List of Jews From Penn
The decision to allow the government to collect the names and phone numbers of Jewish people on campus could allow the government to pursue similar tactics elsewhere.
