I am trying to figure out how not to be resentful right now. I am a manager, and I think a good one, but resourcing is so tight right now that there is no capacity to cover OOO, so I am doing cover. Not terrible, but people just dropped stuff with no regard, and I have to pick it all up.

I love being a woman. Really trying to remember why though! Today started with having my cervix acid washed with legs in stirrups. Precautionary but it didn’t look right to the GP so given I want to go on HRT and we didn’t want any risks. Turns out I have cervical entropion. Perfectly normal. 🥳

Working through one of my #storygraph challenges about indigenous history and I backed out of a book about First Nations history written by a white guy that dedicated the book to God. Much prefer an actual indigenous voice. Bonus she speaks Cree in the book!

Went to doc to talk about perimenopause and HRT... Now have potential hospital appointment in next 2 weeks because well... My cervix is looks wonky. Don't even ask how those two items go together, but I'm about to get an acid wash _in_ my whatsit! So yeah, I guess smears are important...

StoryGraph tells me that I've read 110 books this year to date. But suddenly I can't get past the first page of books and my attention is wandering off mid sentence. I hate brain fog. I hate it with a fiery passion.

In news that surprises no one who knows me, I have been researching perimenopause given I seem to be in the middle of it, and ladies, why is it that we only hear about mood swings, night sweats and hot flashes. The changes women go through because of estrogen are really varied and not discussed!

Getting fed up with vestibular migraines thanks to menopause! Like seriously, were the stress headaches not enough that you’re hitting me with week long migraines now? And stealing my ability to read text. 😰 The orange glasses help stop the screens stabbing me in the eyes but don’t help reading.

As I went out to pull in our bins this morning, I saw the most adorable hedgehog sauntering down the path. I was a little shocked because I have never seen a hedgehog in real life before, and I genuinely thought they were nocturnal. He was a fast little bugger too... Didn't approach, just said hi.

So I am going to an SLT meeting later this year and we are apparently getting swag. I just got asked for my jacket size and my home country (specifically not where I live but where I call home)… Wanna guess what I answered?

In College we had a teacher who "taught" us Java, he held a lab exam for 2 hours every Wednesday where he programmed 90% of an assignment and left us to do the last 10%. It didn't matter if we understood the assignment or not, we were graded on it. I ran into an error and couldn't resolve it.

Today is not a brain day! I had to look down to remember whether I put on a top or not. (I did!) But I have a whole load of work that needs to be done, and I have no brain to get it done.

Katalin Karikó is one of the most extraordinary scientific stories of this era. A girl from a modest Hungarian household helped develop technology that saved millions of lives worldwide. In 2023, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for discoveries that enabled effective mRNA vaccines.

SHE WAS DEMOTED, UNDERPAID, AND IGNORED FOR 40 YEARS. HER
UNIVERSITY TOLD HER MRNA RESEARCH WAS WORTHLESS. HER COLLEAGUES STOPPED TAKING HER SERIOUSLY. SHE EARNED $50,000 A YEAR FOR FOUR DECADES. THEN COVID ARRIVED - AND, SHE WON THE NOBEL PRIZE.
