lrp one of my favorite qualities in horror and suspense works is when the author has calmly loaded the gun in front of you, even shown you exactly how it works, and all you can do is wait for them to pull the trigger on the horrible inevitable thing they just told you flat out would happen
One of my favorite and most effective design patterns is "tell the player exactly what you're gonna do to them, then do it." You can be SIGNIFICANTLY meaner to the player if you simply tell them ahead of time that that's exactly what you'll be doing, and also the suspense of the warning is a delight

it didn't hallucinate anything. it did exactly what it was programmed to do. just because it did it in a way that was wrong or unhelpful for you doesn't mean it was *experiencing* the uniquely human (or living) concept of sensing things in your environment that aren't real
on that note, if we could stop suggesting it "hallucinates" that would also be great, at it is the same
