I'm in the Star today with a piece on the Carney government's handling of relations with the United States. Last year, Canadians gave Mark Carney a mandate to disentangle our country from the empire to the south. By any reasonable standard, he's done the opposite. Link in first reply.

This is a really powerful article and I encourage you to read it. Trans history is too often missing or destroyed. This story gave me hope—queer people in even darker times finding inspiration and family with their peers.

"An Underworld," June wrote in The Female-Impersonators, "exists in all cities of any size because human nature is what it is, and because of the social usages decreed by the blind Overworld." A declaration like that was revolutionary at the time. June recognized that queer people were not only everywhere, but also that it wasn't they who were the problem.

Having now seem the Odyssey, parts of Emily Wilson’s pan are funny — ‘too interesting to look at!’ ‘not boring enough!’ — but her issues with the absence of Odysseus’s “cunning intelligence” is a misunderstanding of the interpretation, which is about how often intellect confuses vanity for morality
