My experience is of every American COVID-19 mitigation effort being obviously insufficient, and ended far too soon. To see people now argue that they somehow were too much, going too far? Not anti-vax or MAGA people, but folks just out here on Bluesky? It staggers me.

Thank you Sony for letting me buy Final Fantasy dioramas for money, I have an exciting idea for your next product and it’s to let me buy a copy of the next Final Fantasy game for money

In my opinion, they are looking for a reason to find it acceptable that isn’t “because Covid still exists and I don’t want it.” They’re trying to fit you into their narrative, because you are unpleasantly jarring to them.

It’s always odd to me when I get asked if I am wearing a mask because I am sick. In my experience, these days most people wearing a mask are doing so to prevent themselves getting sick, and most people who are sick don’t wear a mask at all.

I'm not generally fond of anyone correcting other peoples' grammar unless the author requested it, but what pisses me off extra is some smug idiot pretending not to understand slang in a casual conversation. "You 'seen' it? What does that mean?" oh okay so you're stupid

The TOS being so strict that they control you offsite is the problem; sites like Patreon and Kofi have offsite clauses too. The social criminalization of the suggestion that somewhere you might be doing nsfw is a problem. It's branding a person as obscene and we need consumers to stand up for us

a bunch of popular ASMR artists lost their channels forever this week, after YouTube cited them for violating terms against "sexually gratifying" content: www.404media.co/youtube-asmr...

Collapsing it into old versus young is ridiculous too, and ignores the chronically ill and vulnerable across all age ranges. I have friends younger than me who were far more at risk than many folk much older, and some of them still don't feel safe going outside now that lockdown measures are over.

What if capitalist social relations forced us into false binaries we wouldn’t have to choose between if we actually sought to change the system itself?! What then?! Also, don’t make Covid the ‘Brexit of Education’. It’s been a long time since educational success led to social mobility.

(I get that Bluesky is very obviously the Wow We Loved Lockdowns website but I think it's absolutely fine, five years after the fact, to wonder if we got the balance right between
"protecting older people" and "making sure younger people weren't getting entirely shafted", arguments are allowed)

Scapegoats are emotionally cheaper than systems. Blaming the left asks nothing of you. It feels good and righteous and right. Asking whether your institutions and your party failed you requires dismantling beliefs you have spent your lifetime building. That is emotionally expensive.

Twitch and Amazon are apparently planning to use streams to train Generative AI. Multiple sources tell me it will be announced in the coming months, despite some internal friction against it. Creators may be able to opt out of some training data.
