The government has been very quick to talk about e-scooters recently, but they are silent on the ever-increasing numbers of deaths on our roads - of pedestrians, cyclists, motorbike riders, drivers, and passengers.

In local news: the footpaths in Ballintemple are being renewed at the moment. Some traffic disruption but this will be a great relief to those who worried that the crumbling concrete paths might damage their tyres. #Speirgorm

Yes — the Glanmire greenway is Riverstown to Glanmire village. Glanmire village to the city centre (Pathfinder) is all-but dead. The moment Eamon Ryan left office, it was brought out the back and a plastic bag put over its head. The NTA promise it's still alive, but there's no proof of life.

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.

Glen's impact on music and film is too large to fit into a single post. "Once" was made on a budget of 150k with a box office of 23 million. His musical career was equally unbelievable. Hard work, heart and determination can make the impossible possible. Thank you Glen and Godspeed. #FilmSky

To put this in an Irish context, although the urban core is smaller, the Bordeaux 'metropolitan area' is approx the same size as Dublin's, at 1.2million. Worth picturing what a plan to evacuate the entirety of Dublin would look like. Where would we all go? And how would we get there?

Lovely to learn that plans are being made to evacuate the entire city of Bordeaux because of wildfires. A major European city at risk of full evacuation due to climate change. www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...

If the GAA no longer needs the 4G pitch here it should be returned to public ownership to repair the rupture it has created in Marina park. The ongoing conflict between park and business interests is in nobody's interest. #Cork www.irishexaminer.com/business/eco...

Micheál Martin says he's "leaning towards" banning e-scooters because of rising injuries and the misuse of e-scooters and scramblers by criminal gangs. But those are two completely different problems. One is public health. The other is criminality.

One of the reasons why the ongoing meltdown about Zohran asking people to set their A/C to 78 bothers me is that it seems to be a symptom of post-COVID unwillingness for individuals to do anything for the common good, and if we don’t have that we’re in a very bad place as a society.

This Danville, VA city council candidate made a very dramatic video about sidewalks and public safety, and I love it and him. Worrying about a possible milkshake duck situation, I looked at his FB page, but he seems ok. Juneteenth celebrations, community outreach, Methodists. A solid old gent.

So much to love about Pico waving the Irish flag, not least that he, a proud Irishman of African heritage and as Dublin as can be, embodies the kind of Irishness that the far right can't abide but is a thriving feature in communities across the island.

‘Peace and quiet’: Residents welcome Manna drone ‘pause’ Drone deliveries in Dublin and in cork have raised concerns among residents over planning and lack of consultation with residents. “It’s like a tractor overhead” www.irishtimes.com/ireland/dubl...

The June solstice is today, 21st June, 2026. Today the sun will be directly above the most northerly latitude of the Earth for a moment, before heading off south again. And that moment is now, 09:24 Dublin time (i.e. 09:24 IST, 08:24 UTC).

Polling for congestion pricing is always bad before a city implements it. Then it rapidly improves once residents experience faster traffic, quieter streets, and better transit service. As a European city official once told me, " “You have to make people happy against their will."

Pay to drive into Boston? No way, say a majority of Mass. voters. - The Boston Globe
