Today's happy fandom surprise is: I had totally forgotten that a story of mine in a Highlander zine 25 years ago (OMGGG!!) (Futures Without End 4) received some gorgeous art by X, which is now linked to the story as part of an import to AO3, yay. Yay! And lo there was rejoicing throughout the land!

I mean, I've seen the Star Trek (Horizon) font here and there in the wild, and it's usually a poor choice because I associate it with tribbles and Vulcans and bat'leths and whatnot, but it was a bit jarring to encounter it plastered onto a soccer commercial on the usa network.

Now you can opt out of having your posts shown to non-followers in the Discover feed. We know not everyone wants to go viral. Sometimes you're just posting for your followers. This is one of a few updates we're working on to give you more control over your experience and help you find your people.

We report: there is all this convection lately, and we saw the atmospheric pressure drop below 1010 hectopascals for the first time in many months. We have heard of thunderstorms, even tornadoes in other places. Here, we see short, unannounced showers, and timid drizzle at night.

Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.

I don't think Dolly would want me to be sad. I think she'd want me to blast Jolene in the car and sing it at the top of my lungs (while thinking about Stargate, iykyk, llama llama) and then she'd want me to spend the next few days being extra kind to other people and helping others. ymmv.

out it goes: my long post about Rachel Hope Cleves's claim that Tillie Walden plagiarised her book. It's long because Cleves's claim is much, much more bizarre than it looked on first reading. I'm not going to bury the lede here. Cleves's claim does not hold up. buttondown.com/thene/archiv...

stick a pin in this metaphor …because these covers are a microcosm of the entire conflict; Walden's book is mostly built on writing and other objects left by Sylvia Drake, Charity Bryant, and others. Her work includes many elements from these records that Cleves does not refer to in her book, and many of her interpretations of those records are different from Cleves's interpretations, often intentionally so. In addition to her historical basis, Walden's book includes fictional dialogue and story elements that are original to her work, some of which are inspired by Walden's own life.

i am working on a very, very long blog post that could really have fit into a skeet: When someone posts that "this website/journal article/etc proves my dramatic claim!!!" and then does not link to the website, journal article, etc, it is because it does not in fact prove their dramatic claim.

Duuuude, I don't know what I thought Sugar was going to be about, but whatever I did, it's not that! I can't even describe how much this show subverted my expectations. Highly recommend. Go in as unspoiled as humanly possible.
