The Joke Calculator

@dewno.bsky.social

I'm the world-famous Joke Calculator. Still a bit confused by how this new website works. Not a fan of the drama and personalities on here. Just my take. (he/him)

Need to write more essays. That's the meaning of life right there, not enlightenment or whatever. No, it's all just posts. You just post something you think is cool, and if it's cool enough then other people might think that it's cool, too. We were put here to post stuff we think is cool.

I'm fond of Will, but he's clearly reading this kind of backwards. It's the poor who are stuck with the inherent wastefulness of shoddy industrial manufacture. The aristocrat buys bespoke shoes that will last a lifetime because *nobody else can afford them*...

Linda Tirado, who Ehrenreich called "the real thing" in comparison to herself in her foreword to Tirado's HAND TO MOUTH, is the only person I know who doesn't like Boots Theory, not because it is bad but because too many people heard the synopsis of her memoir and wanted to explain Boots Theory.

There is absolutely a lane on the Democratic side for carving out voters who have concerns about corporate influence over health-related policy and who are not anti-science cranks. I’m glad to see @aoc.bsky.social trying to establish that lane, but her messaging needs to be tightened up quite a bit.

There is pervasive corruption across our healthcare and agricultural systems that defy party lines. I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.

A lot of people on here remain bitter about the version of Uncommitted they made up in their heads while high profile members of the actual Uncommitted are becoming mayors, state senators, members of Congress and maybe even part of the US Senate. In some cases, with establishment support.

Under-discussed Michigan politics story is that a co-founder of Uncommitted is about to become the Democratic nominee for a seat to the State Senate with the backing of Governor Whitmer

State Senate candidate Abbas Alawieh of Dearborn, cofounder of the Uncommitted movement and ex-chief of staff to Rep. Cori Bush, gave a passionate speech Sunday at the annual Arbaeen procession in Dearborn, declaring in Arabic: I’m American.

Assuming that AOC is actually extending an olive branch to RFK Jr. here is the wrong takeaway IMO. she's saying "not left and right, it's top and bottom" but the clear message is "the right is tricking a bunch of people by co-opting legit concerns, and if we don't address the concerns, we'll lose"

"Okay, guys, here's the image for the ruin." "And?" "Look carefully. The puzzle's secrets are waiting to be reve-" "Oh, it's here, see? A key-shaped recess. It's hard to see because of the aliasing on the bricks" "Oh, yeah." "Damn it, Rob! Use theater of the mind. We talked about this last week!"

"I'm entitled to whatever I want whenever I want it for any reason and I don't care what satisfying these urges does to me or the world" well okay dude, seems like there's something deeper going on here, but that's just my take

Eric Adams missed his calling as a guy who makes ASMR audio files of guided sleep meditations. "There is a tremendous reserve of powerful crystals directly below Manhattan. As you inhale, flecks of crystal dust align the magnet of your spine. The pineal gland is the New York City of your brain."

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better

it's that plus a pretty large amount of "we cannot let these people into politics" - even where a muslim candidate tries to avoid the issue (mamdani) it's all israel all the time whenever one of us runs. you'd think they'd see it but i genuinely think a lot of them dont

It's rarely ever said so outright but basically the thesis of the Stevens surrogates as of today is that Arab Americans cannot possibly have any legitimate grievances about someone who is openly and proudly supportive of a country that kills their families lol

If Stevens wins, she will have to engage in very little "healing" behavior before November. AES and his fans? I don't even know if they care about healing. It seems, from their behavior, they want harm. Harm towards the Democratic coalition. We'll have to see what happens.

the most annoying thing about the What We Should Have Done With COVID discourse is that the actual viable option to accept more health risk in exchange for less disruption was not to rawdog the plague, it was to push the vaccine wide earlier with worse trial data

I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

Jennifer Romig @jennifermromig.bsky.social · 4d ago

Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary

I just want to point out that posts like this always avoid actually calling Gaza a genocide, because that's their actual intent. You have to do all your homework on all the terrible things happening in this world before you condemn any one thing. And then? Well, now it's just one of many bad things!

Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com · 7d ago

Just wondering, where all the “say it’s a genocide” folks have been when it comes to Sudan and Myanmar?

Dreamt LeBron was on shark tank playing hardball with Mark Cuban "one million for ten percent at a valuation of ten billion dollars" for a show about an Irish handyman fixing door closers at second-tier football clubs. they were haggling over LeBron firefighting the next 10 fires at a Vegas casino

One of the largest "news" accounts on Twitter (that Elon Musk promotes constantly) posted about Ukraine using an AI generated map. The map gets worse and worse the more you stare at it.
