Re-upping—publishers and editors of weird fiction. I'd be delighted to consider your 2026 projects for Vol. 3 of The Best Weird Fiction of the Year.

Undertow Publications 🇨🇦@undertow.bsky.social · 3w ago

Publishers and Editors! I'm taking subs for Vol. 3 of the award-nominated "Best Weird Fiction of the Year" til end of the year. Writers! You'll get a chance to submit your 2026 stories in January. bestspecfic(at)gmail.com

Esteemed Editors and Publishers,

I am now taking submissions of original 2026 short fiction projects — magazines, anthologies, single-author collections — for consideration in The Best Weird Fiction of the Year, Vol. 3. (Publishing Sept. 2027). Vol. 1 is a World fantasy Award Finalist.

I am seeking material first published this year, in 2026. To be clear, only weird fiction FIRST published in 2026 is eligible for inclusion in this volume. I will accept translated work as long as the first English-language publication was 2026.

Stories should be between 500 and 17,499 words. Audio only stories are also ineligible, unless they also appeared as text.

Publishers and editors are encouraged to send electronic or digital copies, via the email address below. (I am not accepting hard copy submissions.) ePubs are preferred, but I will also accept text files (Word), Mobi, or PDF. Please do not cherry-pick selections. Send the entire book, journal, or magazine to:

bestspecfic@gmail.com

Thank you for your time and kind consideration.

Warm Wishes,

Michael

Head-and-shoulders color photo of writer Pamela M. Durgin, a fair-skinned woman with brown hair streaked with gray and worn pulled back, a few wisps escaping around her face. She wears glasses with retro plastic frames and a blue-and-white checked shirt. She stands between two rows of tall wooden bookshelves full of books and looks over her shoulder at the camera, smiling delightedly.

Head-and-shoulders color photo of writer Karlo Yeager Rodríguez, a Puerto Rican man with tanned skin, brown eyes, brown hair cut short, a short beard that’s mostly gray, and a well-trimmed mustache that’s about half brown and half gray. He wears glasses with black plastic frames, a V-neck white tee, and a tan aloha shirt with a pattern of toucans. He sits in a leather-backed chair with a decorative shelf and a computer monitor behind him. With his face in three-quarters view and his chin tilted down, he looks into the camera with a faint, soft smile.

ICYMI, "A Tree is not a Home" is a short story in our 🌟January 2026 issue🌟 by @dianadima.com about seeking refuge wherever you might find it. Read it for the quiet grief and pain of its birch tree narrator havenspec.com/fiction/a-tr...

An excerpt of the short story "A Tree is not a Home" by Diana Dima, in Issue 21 of Haven Spec Magazine (January 2026). The text reads:

A tree is not a home. But you, twelve years old and bony, dragging a suitcase behind a gray mother into the gray building where you were now going to live, looked back at me as though it was all wrong. As though the building should have been me.

You came out soon afterwards, walked across the parking lot and over the low wire fence into my patch of land. (I saw you, in a manner of speaking, like an arrow rushing at me in the dark.)

I could tell that you had never seen a birch before.

The background is the issue's cover art, titled Pile, by Aimee Cozza. It shows a figure with blood around their mouth and on their neck and chest, cuddling a pack of wolves.
