A piece of advice for new writers: read the magazines you're submitting stories to. Not only will it help you understand their tastes, but you'll probably find some cool writers who will broaden your horizons.

“You haven’t been gone from here for very long. Seconds, maybe,” she says. “It’s July 31st. Still summer. School’s in a couple of weeks.” July 31st is an EXCELLENT day to read “Remade, Reshaped, Remembered,” a gorgeous post-portal fantasy story by @sydneyficant137.bsky.social.
Remade, Reshaped, Remembered - OTHERSIDE
“I didn’t think the portal would choose you.” This is the first thing Ma tells you when she finds you standing in your childhood bedroom, unable to remember how you got there. You are grasping for a nonexistent blade at your waist, completely baffled by your child-soft hands and your oversized basketball shorts and the […]

Now I’m comparing these to the first photos I ever took of Wilf in a yard full of flowers and feeling very emotional—back when the Summer Prince was the most terrified boy in all the world, back when I said things like “oh, we’re just fostering him.”
I’ve been pretty offline this past week thanks to an excess of life events, haven’t managed to post many updates, but I guess it’s never a bad time to log on and share that the Summer Prince, Lord of All Flowers has surveyed his realm and ruled that it is good.

Absolutely loved this new story from Parker, and not just because I have recently been learning more about Paul Meadows than I ever wished to learn. So good. 🪳

It’s an absolutely gorgeous cool and breezy day—possibly the most perfect day in the history of summer days—and I have asked Winnie to walk up a small hill.

Still looking for my secondary world fantasy to sweep me off my feet, so if you have one, please send it to Otherside? I like stories that feel brutal and sharp, beautiful prose, and audacious worldbuilding. Above all, I'm looking for ambition rather than stories that play within an existing canon

It’s been a depressing week in short fiction. But… it sounds trite, but I’ve read about 250 submissions this week, and I have wept + laughed + been left dizzy and amazed too many times to count. I feel lucky to be a reader right now, even in this Age of Slop. Real art will win; real art is forever.
We are about halfway towards our goal of picking up enough new subscriptions to give our staff, authors, translators, and artists a raise when we publish our 20th anniversary issue in October. Thanks to all who have signed up and/or boosted the signal. clarkesworldmagazine.com/subscribe/

In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes, and the fact that creative inspiration will only ever hit when my to-do list includes three thousand extremely urgent tasks and seven thousand medium-urgent ones for good measure.
What if I told you about King Midas. What if I did it three more times. What if it was queer. What if it was trans. What if it was in Small Wonders TODAY.
You know the story of Midas, right? Stories shift and warp though, so let's hear that old tale a few more times. Let @elijah.mea.rs tell us how "He Washes His Sins In the River" :

Friendly reminder, we are open to submissions! And I am having the BEST time reading tons of incredible stories. Can’t decide what to send? With the caveat that I am only one member of a big team with varied tastes… I’d love more fantasy, more experiments with voice/form/chronology, more tragedy 👀
