It’s happening. 292 million birds take off tonight. Bigger than Wednesday's wave, and this time it is over the Ohio Valley. Chicago, Indianapolis, Louisville, Lexington, Cincinnati, Nashville, Birmingham. Turn off the porch and outside lights, tonight. Step outside after 10 and listen

i didn’t really understand this until palestine protests started happening and young people were very unaware that lots of us had been protesting for a good portion of our lives bush. occupy. blm. anti-pipeline work. blm again. we don’t do a lot of teaching about any of it.

we don’t teach young people short-term history, so it was weird when i realized that gen z had no idea that so many gen x and millennials spent our high school years protesting george w bush and not just because of the wars, but because mosques were being targeted and sikh men were being attacked

There are already articles circulating trying to rewrite history and say America was great after 9/11 and united and thoughtful and just a reminder that that period was marked by intense and insanely racist hatred, paranoia, and a frothing desire for unhinged violence and oppression.

Keshia Golden recently accepted a plea deal for involuntary manslaughter following the death of the father of her child, which occurred while she was defending herself & her unborn daughter from an act of domestic violence. Sign the petition for Gov. @jbpritzker.bsky.social to pardon her! 👇🏾

The work Steinem + the women she collaborated with (Dolores Huerta, Dorothy Pitman Hughes, Wilma Mankiller, etc.) did was invaluable. It seems important to emphasize that collaboration cross-culturally was key to what they were able to accomplish. (It was imperfect, but that comes w/the territory)

Four years ago I was surprised to see her on a zoom during post-Dobbs organizing, at age 88 still rallying people around abortion. We lost Dorothy Pittman-Hughes in 2022, she was also on the road up until the end, speaking at abortion conferences until she couldn’t then sending her lovely daughter.

“Steinem, a co-founder of Ms. Magazine, was a hugely recognizable presence wherever she went. And she went everywhere: Much of her life as an advocate was spent on the road, speaking at college campuses and community centers, at rallies and marches.” RIP apnews.com/article/glor...

I've confirmed Walgreens will let people self-attest that they qualify for an updated Covid shot—meaning they won't require proof of a high-risk condition—in all states EXCEPT AZ/OR/UT, where prescription is required for now. (Rx requirement in those states could change) Pls see next post in thread

F.D.A. Approves New Covid Vaccines, and They Should Be Available Soon (Gift Article)

The shots have been approved for people 65 and older, and for younger people with underlying conditions. Others may be able to get them off label.

The fact that someone with a documented history as a White House advisor can repeatedly use this language without any consequences demonstrates just how far this reactionary project to normalize racism and sexism has gotten, and how Black women are particularly targeted to advance it.

Laura Loomer’s racist attacks on Angie Nixon and other prominent Black women draw backlash

Nixon fired back at the far-right activist as Marjorie Taylor Greene publicly condemned Loomer’s remarks as “nasty” and “hateful.”

A judge who loves controlling young peoples’ bodies and singlehandedly deciding their futures was mad the people of Ohio’s constitutional amendment didn’t enshrine his authority. He unanimously lost his creepy attempt to control more bodies.

The Ohio Supreme Court dismissed an Ohio judge’s claim that the reproductive rights amendment in the state constitution hindered him from doing his job.

Thing about the rogue officer framing is how it ignores the way these tools along with gang databases and social media monitoring are used to create a virtual zone of containment on poor mainly Black communities with police monitoring and flagging when people leave their houses.

Gary, Indiana, which just had most of its power turned on after a 2 week blackout, is a story about structural neglect and racism, but it's also a story about the frontlines of climate change. My report from Gary on how the slow boil of climate chaos is accelerating.

Gary, Indiana, Is America’s Latest Climate Victim - The American Prospect

This community has already faced structural racism and disinvestment. A two-week blackout unleashed a humanitarian disaster.

We are a broken nation. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians were living and working legally, paying taxes, and contributing. Haiti remains wholly unsafe. But Trump hates Haitians, and the White House wanted videos of Black people in chains, so they stripped them of status and turned on the cameras.

Haiti TPS has been TERMINATED.
Those with terminated TPS are in our nation Illegally. They have two options: LEAVE IMMEDIATELY or be DEPORTED.

Underneath is a screenshot of a video showing two Haitian men in chains being led to the aircraft. I didn’t post the video, but it’s vile.

Scams are getting very very sophisticated. A tech security firm several repro orgs use has advised us to not even click event invitation links you get in the email unless you expected it or the sender verified it’s them.

Update: Golden took a plea deal today, pleading guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter instead of murder. Per the plea agreement, Cook County Judge Steven Watkins imposed 2 years of "reporting" probation on Golden with no prison time, but with 30 hours of community service.

Happening now: community members are rallying outside Chicago's Leighton criminal courthouse in support of local mother Keshia Golden, who faces murder charges for fatally stabbing her abusive partner, reportedly in self defense and in defense of her then-unborn child, in 2022.
