The work Steinem + the women she collaborated with (Dolores Huerta, Dorothy Pitman Hughes, Wilma Mankiller, etc.) did was invaluable. It seems important to emphasize that collaboration cross-culturally was key to what they were able to accomplish. (It was imperfect, but that comes w/the territory)

Four years ago I was surprised to see her on a zoom during post-Dobbs organizing, at age 88 still rallying people around abortion. We lost Dorothy Pittman-Hughes in 2022, she was also on the road up until the end, speaking at abortion conferences until she couldn’t then sending her lovely daughter.

Last year, I got a text from a friend in public health. They were checking into a hotel in West Texas to help contain a measles outbreak that would eventually grow to more than 900 known cases, likely a fraction of the true number. This once eliminated disease had already killed one child.

We are a broken nation. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians were living and working legally, paying taxes, and contributing. Haiti remains wholly unsafe. But Trump hates Haitians, and the White House wanted videos of Black people in chains, so they stripped them of status and turned on the cameras.

Update: Golden took a plea deal today, pleading guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter instead of murder. Per the plea agreement, Cook County Judge Steven Watkins imposed 2 years of "reporting" probation on Golden with no prison time, but with 30 hours of community service.

A man died in ICE custody due to neglect of his leukemia. Gary Indiana has no power & water sources are contaminated — people with electric stoves have no way to boil it. These are told as separate stories but they’re the same fact of death by neglect written in different fonts.

I got an Index 01 ring by @repebble.com to record memos but one of our toddlers treats it like Precious and accidentally records cute snippets of her life. On one she captured me asking her twin if she’s ready to hold my hand. I do need it to work so I guess I’m getting another. #toddlerupcharge
