Many years ago we spoke at a rally in NYC and Gloria was the closer. I got to thank her and tell her how much she meant to my mom. She graciously and immediately said “let’s get her on the FaceTime.” Very cool memory I’ll always be grateful for 🥹

Very cool to see this debate alongside a cover story about challenging the status quo within the Dem Party. We need that same energy around abortion. The Roe standard is old thinking. Our abortion policies should reflect the world we live in now—not the world of 1973.

Nearly every past atrocity was legal, nearly every liberatory movement to end it was not. Resistance is criminalized because oppressors write laws that protect their cruelty and make our objection to it illegal.
I’m seeing a lot of people hang their hopes and all their attention on the midterms. Electoral organizing matters, but full-time spectatorship won’t build the power we need. I wrote about checking in with yourself about where your attention is going and what you’re doing with it.

It’s ok to feel morally conflicted about abortion—you can even change when you consider abortion at different points in pregnancy. It’s NOT ok to attempt to reconcile that conflict through controlling other people’s bodies.
