Trust, I’d argue, is the most important thing we have as scinece communicators. People come to us because they trust that *we* have done the work to figure out what is true and what isn’t and we can explain it to them. Once that trust is broken, it’s really hard to get it back.

I read like 20 last month so it definitely paid off for me, and meanwhile the author gets paid for the minutes you spend reading.

One awkward side effect to narrating my own work: discovering my written vocabulary is much bigger than my spoken one 😆 I'm looking words up I've been readily using for years, because this is the first I've ever needed to pronounce them!
In college I took a creative writing class. My first assignment came back marked up with stuff like "don't say it's cool and a bit crisp, say a number of degrees! Don't say he's tall, say how many inches!" Uh my POV character doesn't have a thermometer or a ruler so you're getting this!!

I got 19/20. My first blush vibes were usually correct, but I tried to confirm by finding artifacts. The one I got wrong, I did have AI vibes but couldn't find any artifacts so I thought maybe I was just too suspicious. After all sometimes real stock photos are over processed.

I love Kobo Plus. Tons of indie books on there, and I can read as many as I want for cheaper than Kindle Unlimited. But the search function is GARBAGE. I can browse by genre, but only ONE genre, so if I want LGBT sci-fi, or historical gay romance, there's simply no way.
New hobby: voice training. I'm trying to learn to be a good narrator. I've been self conscious about my voice my whole life, but I decided it was time to get over it and learn to make my voice sound however I want. There are limits on that, of course, but I'm finding tons of room within them.
