Sharing from New London Immigrant Defense: "Please join us this Sunday, July 12th, at 6:00 p.m., at the Whale Tail in New London, for a vigil in honor of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and bring a candle if possible. Please join us to mourn this injustice and honor the life of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo."

Candelight vigil. July 12, 6pm. The whales tail new London. Lorenzo and his wife arrived in America decades ago, after meeting as teenagers in Mexico and deciding to relocate, in hopes of a better quality of life for the family they sought to build. Over those years, he started his own business and became a father of three. He had no criminal record. His son describes him as a quiet man, who rose with the sun to get to work, and loved to pet his dog and listen to music. His family shared that he was nearly finished gaining legal citizenship after 35 years. On July 7th, as Lorenzo was driving his homebuilding crew to a job site, he was shot and killed by ICE agents during a traffic stop. DHS states that agents involved in his death were not wearing body-cams, a death that the Medical Examiner for Harris County has ruled a homicide. A quote shared by Lorenzo's son, Ronaldo, reads, "He did not deserve to be reduced to a headline of 'Mexican man shot and killed by ICE...He deserved to live a quiet life as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a husband, a father, and a job creator for dozens of men who also wanted the American dream."

Smith: Either he’s completely demented and has lost touch with reality, or he’s just a power-mad lunatic determined to use as much violence as possible. And both of those things are a problem that goes way beyond what he’s doing in Iran. I really hope people recognize that.
