Isn't it just great when books you love win the awards they deserve? Go read this one everybody!

Many thanks to the @britfantasysoc.bsky.social for the lovely award, & to @subpress.bsky.social for kindly shipping it to me in India (& publishing the book it's for!). THE LAST DRAGONERS OF BOWBAZAR is a book I'm very proud of, with a v small readership, so I'm truly grateful for the recognition.

this is real. a lot of our millennial instincts were formed in the ZIRP era, when there was money for everything because borrowing was almost free. we all worked at dubious startups and we got free/cheap shit from other dubious startups. Netflix borrowed hand over fist to make great queer TV.

Have you noticed, lately, or noticed people around you commenting, that there just seems to be no money anymore. There's no money for companies to make the tv shows you like, the video games you like, the local diner you like shut down, no one you know can find a job. Think about that in context of

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

This should be so obvious that it doesn’t need to be said, but given what kind of weekend it’s been on here, apparently it does: If you don’t want old rapists running the world, in office, in the board room, making decisions for all of us get comfortable with “ruining” young rapists’ lives

Every week, we hear stories about people being illegally jailed on behalf of ICE by the Plymouth County sheriff—even people from out of state—but last time we heard about this from the governor, she said it was just a “county issue” and she doesn't support legislation to stop it. #Massachusetts

I'm in two of these! "The Night Parade" is my Japanese mythology inspired take on Alice. "And On 'Til Morning" is my take on Peter Pan as protector of the souls of lost children. I'm not in The Land Of Oz, but it's a fantastic read all the same

just finished reading this and jfc it's good. Two ghost stories set in Japan. absolutely visceral & gorgeous prose, texture and grime and beauty, sharp characters with cracks so deep you could fall into them. queer stuff, glorious mess, the clarity, the violence of the moment. i'm scared to kiss it

Pleased to announce that my mini collection, Biographies of Valiant Drunken Tigers*, is due out in August from Black Shuck Books. Featuring two brand new stories: Lovesongs of the Nonmigratory Birds, a novella set in 1990s Yokohama. And Shadowsick, a short story. My first piece of writing in ages!

I talk (constantly!) about the college graduation halo, and the avoiding jail halo, that surround Black pro athletes, to point out the incredible racism of the "Protect College Sports🤡" act, restricting young Black athletes' access to the same labor rights that the rest of us enjoy.

Mekka Okereke@mekka.mekka-tech.com · 20h ago

Having a cousin that is a pro athlete, reduces a Black boy's probability of being convicted of a crime. Not because the athlete is a role model. But because they have the means to help the young man avoid being convicted while innocent. But it's still not enough to overcome the level of US racism

while i am commenting on this: i have reached the end of my rope with this sort of thing and my current point of view is that the weird monks should not be allowed to disavow their satanist wing, and also that their satanist wing appears to mostly rule them and tell them what to do

rev. howard arson@theophite.bsky.social · 7d ago

right, exactly. i am adjacent to rationalists because i have worked alongside rationalists for a decade. some are very earnest EA monks who more or less give away the huge amount of money they make. some are neoreactionaries with essentially Satanic values. the monks and neoreactionaries get along.

Most state attorneys general released Meta from Cambridge Analytica-related claims as part of the child safety settlement. New Mexico wasn't part of that deal, and a jury there just found 26 of 29 past statements about Cambridge Analytica, hate speech and misinformation willfully deceptive.

A jury found that Meta—then Facebook—misled the public in statements about Cambridge Analytica and its policies on hate speech, violence and misinformation.

“On this issue, the dynamic has really shifted,” Third Way’s Lanae Erickson told me in an interview She described the “Republicans’ sheer obsession and extremism” in promoting transphobia. This very notable shit by a leading centrist group was omitted in the nyt article. Why?
