I had to turn off the tv before my shows are even on because every single ad today is a campaign ad, but I do wish to report the irony of one where Mike Rogers says “Abdul wants to take money out of your pocket, vote for me” and then ends the ad by looking into the camera asking for donations.

I set up a skeleton in a lawn chair with the candy bowl for trick or treaters and when I can I like to peer through the curtains when kids come up and very often little girls will pat the skeleton‘s hand before they choose their candy from the bowl 🥹

My kid has started a Letterboxd list called Killer Sweaters for films where the killer wears a great sweater and they've asked me to throw it out to Bluesky for more because "that's the kind of thing those weirdos like to do"

I reread Lolita after finishing Pale Fire, it feels wrong to say I “liked” it but did manage to actually finish this time & appreciated it more. Whoever wrote the “reading group” discussion guide at the end and used language like “made love” (🤮) needs to reevaluate their life and choices though

Ok so Lolita was whatever but I’ve been reading Nabokov’s Pale Fire and it is a delight for sickos, I am hooting AND hollering in a literary way, this guy Kinbote reaches ever more impressive heights of making someone else‘s tender, personal art all about himself in a spectacularly unhinged manner

Too early to tell if it worked but I just changed my content setting on tubi to only allow content up to Pg-13 or its equivalent in hopes it will reduce the total volume of sports gambling casino “win real money download now” ads I’m subjected to

There are aspects of Dressmaker - piecing garments together by hanging them off a mannequin, it doesn’t seem to matter what order you sew seams, pinning lace but never having to stitch it in place, etc - that are obvious concessions to making a fun game vs a realistic simulation. However:

I have never actually seen the Cider House Rules and it is kind of blowing my mind that it took until 2026 for me to learn that its main theme song is the “Pure Michigan” commercial song

I have mostly enjoyed borrowing ebooks from the library to read on my kobo but all of a sudden the library is offering me some format of ebook other than the usual one that apparently can’t be opened unless I inflict an adobe product onto my innocent ereader

it’s incredibly difficult to talk someone who’s in out of believing it because they are already convinced that “the establishment” is the one lying to them. Somehow anything from “big pharma” will always be the cynical cash grab, never their favorite supplements. (Those are “natural” of course)

I guess it’s important to communicate that MAHA is fundamentally an movement by individuals to capture health care dollars by lying to people about having products and services that work

Went mad and added several physical books to my library hold list, in addition to the existing ebook holds. Now to wait and see how many of them become available all at once.

I was pulling weeds while it was overcast and it was of course still labor, but generally tolerable, even satisfying because I was making the garden look nicer. Now the sun is out and I’m dying. I hate gardening and being outside. (The temperature is essentially the same)

The new genshin update somehow lead to me spending several minutes on stream analyzing the hotness of a feminine humanoid animal enemy, a sentence i genuinely never would have predicted having reason to say
