Here's some additional motivation bsky.app/profile/frie...
This is my poorly-drawn meme pitch for you all to read Asunder by @kerstinhall.bsky.social aka My Favorite Book I Read This Year And It's Not Even Close. I actually NEED more people to read this book so we can yap about it together!!!!!!
After having it on my mind constantly for almost a year, today I finished my first re-read of @kerstinhall.bsky.social 's Asunder, and I'm thrilled to let you all know that it's just as good the second time 😎 it's VERY satisfying to notice all the foreshadowing after you know what happens 👀
Some positive publishing news to counter some of the doomerism: total book sales, and adult fiction specifically, increased in 2025. Print was 73% of market and digital audio/ebook 22%. (I guess the remaining is physical audio?) www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...
Publishing Sales Hit $32.5 Billion in 2025
Total estimated industry sales rose 2.5% over 2024, according to the year-end report from the AAP, and the number of books sold inched up 0.4%, to 3.15 billion units.

Get your hands on this book while you can. It’s one of my top books so far this year and I’m begging for a sequel. 💙📚

if they're drinking nounwine it's fantasy. if they're snorting a verb it's sci fi
I‘ll be on a Dressmaker livestream later today to talk about ✨writing 35K words of pseudo-historical dress commissions.✨ 12pm EDT!

There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury
The voice-clock sang, breakfast was ejected, but no doors slammed. The garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car. The house sat alone in a city of rubble and…

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.
15) recommend and review a book. A book I would REALLY like a sequel for is @kerstinhall.bsky.social ‘s Asunder. Absolutely stunning original world building and characters that really grab you from the very start. If you like fantasy or just “want a good story”, I couldn’t recommend it more.
AHAHAHAHAHA who has ever met an author who would SHUT UP about writing That said I am guessing the complainers are not seeking "How do I write" -- of which there are REAMS of advice -- but "How do I get published" And are not satisfied with the answers received
Seeing complaints online that authors 'gatekeep' information…! Absolute nonsense. There is no industry or craft in the world which is so comprehensively written about, studied, and discussed as fiction writing, and every author I know welcomes new writers who are serious about giving it a go.
Worth posting in context as it is bang on topic.
probably a good sign that my auto complete suggests "sorry for the delay on my end" after i type the word "so"

So...the book was worth $2.5million...but the bidders hadn't actually read the manuscript?? the agents hadn't read it? How tf do you get to a 14-way auction for millions and *then* turn round to say "terrible prose, reads like slop"?
👀 Fascinated by the "withdrawn by its agents" detail. So the AI use was so blatant that the agents due a huge payday preemptively withdrew the contract?
I love the taste of consequences in the morning.

That screeching sound you heard from international publishers and film rights buyers was an abrupt application of the brakes after a fevered pursuit of the unpublished debut novel.

I have a new story out on Reactor today, my first since my collection came out in 2021. It's about a teenage poet, friend breakups, and wrestling with inherited faith. There are spaceships that are massive libraries. It would make me very happy if you read and shared it! 😊
A young translator is forced to confront whether or not she has become an unwitting collaborator with the people who have invaded her home when she translates important religious texts...perhaps too well. "Into Your Sun-Blessed Life" by @visyap.bsky.social is out now!
I used to run a writing society. MZB came up in passing, and I said “well, she wasn’t GREAT,” and a confused girl was like “what do you mean? my mom named me after Morgaine from Mists of Avalon” — and I felt, in that instant, like my own spontaneous combustion would come as a great blessing.
