I am reviewing guidance for my upcoming ILR application and assembling the necessary docs, etc…and in so doing am reviewing all the stuff I gathered for my LAST visa application (5 years ago)…there’s so much stuff, and the cover letter to write…and things have CHANGED… Much nervous! Very excite!

Watched BELL, BOOK, AND CANDLE (1958) for the first time last night, and while a lot of it hasn't aged well, if this moment wasn't one of the absolute cuntiest things I've ever seen... Serving on levels that have rarely been achieved before or since.

Kim Novak staring directly into the camera with wide eyes and the most dramatic eyebrows you've ever seen, with a Siamese cat immediately in front of her, blocking her mouth, giving a similarly cunty expression. There's a bluish tint to the photo.

As an elder millennial, one of the Great Crimes of AI (in addition to all the real ones) is that AI has poisoned the greatest of all internet creations: the funny cat video. Like, one can no longer simply enjoy a video of a cat being a weird little guy. You have to stop and interrogate reality. FFS

As a child, listening to Dolly Parton sing about the House of the Rising Sun, I had no Latin and less French, so the only thing I could figure she was singing in place of (correct) Vieux Carre was (incorrect) Bucharest and even now, knowing the actual lyrics…my brain still defaults to Bucharest…

So back in 1992, Wes Craven wrote/directed a show called “Nightmare Cafe”. Dear Reader…talk about a TRIP! (We bought it last year and watched it this year) The first episode was incredible—ahead of its time, non-linear time-travel shenanigans, creepy, cosmic, horrific…and 90s AF

The thing I currently hate most about Meta is the way that when I go out of my way to tell the algorithm to block/dislike/hide alt-right content...the more of it is shoved in my face. HOW SHIT CAN YOU BE AT YOUR JOB, ALGY!?

I've reached 68% of my goal* to help pay my ridiculously high fees to get indefinite leave to remain in the UK! If you can help out by a donation of any size or just by sharing, I'd be extremely grateful! x gofund.me/58206040b *the percent on the below image is slightly off for some reason

Covid is a mass disabling event. Just because you had it and were “fine” doesn’t mean there isn’t silent damage in your body. Multiple infections increase the risk of long covid … you never know which one could leave you disabled. This is why we mask. Why we clean the air.

Because ignoring it, and pretending you aren’t adding another bullet to your Covid roulette gun every time you get an infection, is part of the denialism 80% of this country is living in.

1 A few of you asked for an update when I mentioned I was ditching my Kindles for the Kobo (Clara Colour). It’s been a few weeks now, and honestly? I’m never going back. Here’s why making the switch was 100% worth it 🧵👇

A photograph of my new white Kobo Clara Colour e-reader, which is in a black protective case and resting on a dark teal textured fabric surface. The screen is displaying the full-color cover art for the manga "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Vol. 16," featuring the character Guy Crimson with red hair holding a mask. The text on the screen reads "FUSE, Illustration by Mitz Vah" and the title "That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, 16." The Kobo logo is visible on the bottom bezel.

A reminder to our American friends that Montreal Worldcon 2027 is a great opportunity to support Canadian SFFH authors, publishers and readers, see a truly beautiful city and learn more about your Northern neighbours, and meet many Canadians (and others) who cannot as easily come to visit you.

WorldCon? If you're interests skew horror/weird fiction is it worth going? I ask because it's in Montreal next year.

🌟It's my birthday!🎈 I turn 30 today, and I'd love to share some of the art from a personal project l've been working on (slowly) through all of my twenties Bronze Age, high fantasy, diverse, colourful and researched are the guiding principles for this work (hopefully you can tell!) 🏺🏛️🔮 1/15

Two of my first research purchases as a novelist working pre-Internet were from a medical bookshop. 1 - a big book of anatomical diagrams so any time a weapon went into a character, I knew what it would hit. 2 - an illustrated handbook of critical trauma care. Photos not for the squeamish.

I've reached 65% of my fundraising goal to stay in the UK, and really can't thank everyone enough for their kindness and generosity. If you're able to donate, I'd so appreciate anything you could spare, and/or if you could share it around, that would also be a massive help. Thank you so much!

"When LGBTQIA+ rights were once again at risk, PinkNews was given a choice: continue to serve the LGBTQIA+ community...or submit to the allure of mass-producing popular, uncontroversial content...its decision to cave to the whims of the algorithm has left it in reputational and financial tatters."

Metric anxiety is fueling a dangerous decline in quality queer journalism

Why so many articles about queer people focus on celebs, rely on pics of hypermasculine guys and use rage-bait misinformation
