1929 - Bessie Smith - St Louis Blues A standalone performance on set with a story and a cast built around the song, is this the first music video? Cant think of anything with a better claim to the title. Even if you don't think so, what a performance!

You all so enjoyed last night's etching of Morrison's Court, here it is again, in 1948. The building facing Argyle Street, with the turnpike stair, was built around 1797, by John Morison, and was then on the extreme western edge of the city. Pic: Daily Record

Today I'm reading extracts from the memoirs of Detective Archie Carmichael, who served in the City of Glasgow Police from 1859 to 1900. A skilled investigator, his fascinating casebook demonstrates the detective strategies of the time, as well as offering a glimpse of Victorian Glasgow.

Glaswegians didn't need to go to Grenada to visit the Alhambra, they just had to walk along Wellington Street. This week finds Frank bemoaning the sad loss of what was the city's most modern and sophisticated theatre.

Well, if it’s 23 September... YES, THAT’S RIGHT! It’s the 72nd anniversary of the hunt for the Gorbals Vampire, in which hundreds of children aged from four to 14, armed with dogs, knives, and sharpened sticks went looking for an urban myth

Daily Mirror front page shows grainy image of horde of children in a cemetery, and the headline “Amazing scene as hundreds of children rush cemetery”

Another one bites the dust! This week, Frank tells us about the final curtain call at the Grand Theatre in Cowcaddens - oh yes he does... Pic/text: 'The City that Disappeared - Glasgow's Demolished Architecture' by Frank Worsdall (1981)

Glasgow's Grand Hotel of 1880 by James Thomson, pictured in 1968. It had 105 rooms, a grand ballroom, a cocktail bar, and nine function rooms, and embodied the opulence and glamour of the Victorian era. In its design, Thomson drew inspiration from the buildings of Paris. #Glasgow
