Recently finished The Cut Throat Trial by @barristersecret.bsky.social. Absolutely outstanding, the build up and process of the trial from the different perspectives of defendants, prosecution, defence and the vile Jeremy Letts (judge) is fascinating. The trial outcome is... Well, just read it, ok?
Be under no illusion: this is a significant victory for everyone who stuck their neck out and defended jury trials, day after day, clause by clause. But it is not a comprehensive victory. Magistrates should not be allowed to send people to prison for two years.

Apropos of nothing. I was once involved in a case many moons ago where a helpful member of the public called the police on a group of men acting suspiciously. A couple of diligent police officers turned up, back up was called, arrests were made etc.

It's not often that I get surprised by a book in a way that makes me go "oooh" and flip back through the whole book to see how it fell together rather than think the book is not playing fair, but "The Cut Throat" trial by @barristersecret.bsky.social did just that. Amazing situations reversals
