Current mood; trying to identify this yarn colour (It's scheepjes catona, all I gotta do is work out which one)
Hahhahaa I love this (It's so fascinating to see things through the lens of other people's expertise)
You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.
“Steeped in language magic and a murder mystery...I tore through this book and loved every secons...a talent to watch.” @rebeccaroanhorse.bsky.social Shay Kauwe's debut THE KILLING SPELL ft: ✨Language Magic 💕Enemies to Lovers Romance 👩🏽Eldest Daughter Problems Buy geni.us/killingspell

I'm not sure why we're posting about ai but I don't use AI in my writing, in my cover art, etc. I've had every feature that could automatically modify text in Word turned off for decades, and AI is just more of the same. Every edit lovingly done by hand.
This is anecdotal but I've been told I'm in the wrong restrooms in the uk last year, which has never happened before (I just stared, and it was fortunately not confrontational)
The EHRC's Code of Practice has been condemned as a "system of segregation", "impractical and inhumane", and even "genocidal in nature" It comes into force today
I saw the trailer for "Wicker" and I am pretty sure basket weaving teachers are about to experience a boom in their economy.
Since this is my only public-facing internet presence, here's my AI policy: I don't use AI for my writing. I don't use it for idea generation or editing. I don't use it for publicity. I have not in the past, and will not in the future. I have "no AI" statements in all the contracts that I sign.
it's crazy to me people still insist ai for research is reliable when we now have an Hbomberguy video's worth of evidence that its unreliability is tanking Hank Green's career
this is clickbait garbage a) it wasn't ~dronez~ stuff, it was the same vanilla GPS jamming that has occurred at WSMR for decades b) a crew should *absolutely* be capable of conducting a nonprecision approach to an ILS, *ESPECIALLY* if there's a NOTAM out for PNT jamming
A routine medical flight, on a clear night, ended with a plane crash that killed all four people onboard. Investigators say it's the first known US civilian plane crash tied to electronic warfare. This won't be the last story of its kind. A must-read from @jeffwise.bsky.social for @wired.com
Dear Word 365 on Mac, thanks but no thanks for stopping your support of VNI input for mysterious reasons (It may be an option I need to turn on, haven't found it yet. Or the Vietnamese language option)

I love this essay. I feel like the tendency to throw away the whole unpleasant person started with Tumblr, and has unfortunately only gotten worse since Covid. Communities are messy, sometimes awkward things, but that's the joy of them - we take care of each other, even the Eeyores and Grouches.
I was beaten to it by the amazingly generous @mollytempleton.com but yes! The blog I was nervous about yesterday is a reality today. She’s free. She’s long. She contains multiple cat photos. www.patreon.com/MicaiahJohns...
You can watch what happens when lock downs were lifted cause of festival season in India cause outdoor was deemed safe. Delta wave took my uncle at 68, the healthiest man in his family. My father spent hours helping folks on WhatsApp. People don’t realize the bullets they’ve dodged.
I’ve been writing a counter narrative of shutdowns that has me revisiting media from that time. And let me tell you, the only other option was everybody die. So yeah.
are we disagreeing about condiments or war crimes because that makes a difference, goldacre
Sad to see people posting on social media negatively about Rod Liddle, who died yesterday. If I have disagreed with you very strongly in life - and you die - I hope I'll be either silent, or kind.
oh shit you can currently watch The Repair Shop for free on Tubi and the Roku Channel! Let me please take this opportunity to encourage everyone here to watch The Repair Shop! people come with their Old Items, and a bunch of highly skilled craftspeople fix the Items
not enough people are out here talking about The Repair Shop!!! what about the sacred quality of objects that humans invest with their own history and emotions! what about the value of handcrafting processes that go back generations! what about the rich interconnections between craft and carework 😭
We all have those now. Rona does organ damage. And that's how bodies work... problems mount up until one of them gets you.
Breaking News: Two deaths in Michigan have been linked to cyclospora. Both people who had the parasite also had underlying health issues.
I had the now-traditional Clarke Award discussion at NoaF again this year, and (possibly as is clear from the length) had a great time chatting to Dan about all of it. Come for the jokes, stay for the book opinions.

Your regular reminder that you can't appease a bully. You show them your belly, they'll just bully you even more. Seriously, @amnestyuk.bsky.social, on behalf of all of us, stand up to this spoiled, schoolyard beehutch, will you? Give her the bloody nose she deserves. You're letting everyone down.
