Once I was looking at Baltic amber collection of CeNak Hamburg - and I found this donated piece of jewelery - a heart-shaped piece of amber, it was marked "diptera #fossil ?" - but it was almost opaque, amber polished long ago gets dar, we CT scanned it and behold - 56 tiny cyclorhapha larvae! 🦖⚒️

Madeira wall lizard 🦎 (Teira dugesii) is an endemic of Madeira archipelago, who established several populations in mainland Portugal, like these guys we seen in Lisbon. Rare case of island endemic reptile being invasive on Mainland (Cuban Anole is the only other one I can recall) 🐸🐍

It was a pleasure to work with @nathanjaybaker.bsky.social and @swarmofthoughts.bsky.social on this long-term insect time-series. The megadiversity of #DarkTaxa is a serious blind spot for #biodiversity monitoring - by focusing on well-known groups, we neglect the vast majority of species. 🧪🦟🪰

For the #fossilfriday today - Brachyphyllum cf. gracile - Araucaria like upper Jurassic #fossil #plant. This specimen we have found in Moernsheim quarry close to Solenhofen, same one where Alcmonavis poeschli was discovered
