a lot of her upset is totally understandable, esp after Walden implied Cleves had not read the whole archive. but that's no excuse to try to destroy someone's career & extort them for money
Thene @thenefox.bsky.social makes a revealing reading of the two covers. Walden’s starts with what Cleves' presented, goes back to the source to preserve more visual elements (braided hair), and then expands outwards with a combination of research and imagination. No longer dark but illuminated.

amazing thread, unsurprisingly. I have been dodging the romantasy/special edition conversations because I don't want to have to fist-fight all the fantasy-only readers on my timeline and then never speak to them again, because boy oh boy does this topic bring out the Bad Romance Takes.
