Students made their first minicomics in my intro making course - mostly standard format but this student, a first time maker(!), did something so off the charts I’m still reeling from it! & he made like 12 of them for his classmates! A paper engineering feat of flipbookery as well as killer drawing!
Usually I experience hypnagogic hallucinations during an afternoon nap vs hypnopompic but oh boy, it's extra creepy when you've just reread Hello Sunshine and they a) feature your dead mom b) include things you can't see and only hear/feel and c) the world around you starts cracking like a mirror

But @jessiegender.bsky.social is right - think of the amount of times HBO commented on GOT leaks and downloads, just as an example. They DO track these things, and even that drives interest. We live in an increasingly isolationist culture that encourages you to be emotionally stunted. Books and stories should be about experiencing minds different from yours. They should expand your empathy and emotional intelligence. But that doesn't happen if the reaction is constantly this:
This is part of what I'm referring to with many people demanding stories that reassure them they're a good person. They want the moral instruction because otherwise, rather than processing the reading experience, there's a thrum of "am I bad? am I bad? what if someone finds out I'm bad?"

Everytime I take a little staycation I think I'm going to actually get some things done. And sure, I needed to spend serious time advancing job prospects, but just lmao at myself for thinking I might manage to do some art instead of catch up on lost sleep.

my back fixed itself enough in time that i didn't have to cancel my trip, but it's a lot more downtime for me this year. still, the uncanny experience continues to be the most enjoyable con with the loveliest people imaginable. once again, the drag show alone was worth the trip. x-men love renewed 💕
spent the long weekend mostly napping to catch up on all the sleep I lost over the past two weeks. necessary but ugh i'm left dealing with the ick of heavy sleep during the day and my particular flavor of hypnagogic hallucinations (i get a spreading void from the corner of the room).
Regarding this issue: if your (ex-)agent is claiming a split of the Anthropic payout, I would contact them and ask if they are asserting that they are the legal, beneficial or sole owner of the work. Because that is explicitly what makes them eligible for a payout.

It specifies you must be legal, beneficial, or sole owner of the exclusive right to reproduce a copyrighted work, and offers this list of possible claimants. Note the absence of 'literary agent'.

Hi @greenburgerlit.bsky.social ! Could you explain, for the audience, what the maths are behind you putting in for 25% of Anthropic compensation on books you agented? Why is it 25% of the full sum, and not, say, 15% of the author share? Why should you get anything?
