A lot of folks seem to be impressed by Vance’s criticism of Israel, but unless and until the administration shows it’s willing to impose actual consequences it means about as much as Biden leaking that he’s upset with Bibi for the 100th time.
By knocking out key pillars of the postwar order, Trump has exposed its fragilities and forced a reassessment of how the United States engages the world. But restoring credibility abroad will require more than rhetoric.

Democrats made a huge mistake in letting Trump take the antiwar lane in 2024. He quickly abandoned it. It would be staggeringly incompetent to allow him to retake it now.

cosign. the problem here is that Trump started an insane, catastrophic, illegal war, and after you do that all of the options are bad. that is not an argument against a deal, it's an argument for not starting senseless horrifying wars

There’s a longstanding US bipartisan consensus around wildly inflating the Iranian threat. Trump’s war, a strategic defeat, was an expression of that consensus. If the MOU ending the war puts the US and Iran on path to a more normal relationship, that will be a positive thing.
If Trump actually ends his War on Iran it will be the single best decision he's made in the conflict, regardless of concessions. He disproved a core belief of the Iran Deal critics, that a better outcome existed through threats and force. Catastrophic failure, bombs cannot secure what diplomacy did.
Amen. The war was a disaster, and whatever deal Trump forged will be worse than the status quo ante. But the problem here isn't his failure to strike a tougher deal. It's his decision to waste so many lives and so many billions of dollars, for goals that wouldn't merit this even IF they were met.
