Not to take away from celebrating Carson, but she's a "former professor" here in large part because the university shut down her department and cancelled its classes. What pride does the institution claim now—years later—when austerity is forcing other scholars out? What does that 'pride' do?

Of the many revolting racist and illegal activities this administration is responsible for, the repeated attacks on Dr. Cook are some of the worst. These specious inquiries are clearly racially motivated, but they are also due to Dr. Cook’s understanding and arguing for the dual mandate of the Fed.

I was in a meeting today with other STEM department heads who were sharing how their faculty's NSF funding is finally starting to come through, if less than before. It was really hard not to reply with, "At least your directorates still exist."

In response to our questions, an NSF spokesperson said that SBE has not been shut down. But with zero SBE-specific funding opportunities, no review panels, and dwindling numbers of staff, it's hard to see the directorate continuing for much longer.

Listening and reading about the Lee Co. Iowa proposed $15 billion steel mill all day and every time thinking that the southernmost portion of that county was "The Half-Breed Tract" instituted in 1824. It turned into a legal quagmire of land speculation - even Joseph Smith Jr. purchased land there.

It's a dumb small thing but I have so much resentment towards my degree-granting institution over the ways it set up procedures and rules that were clearly designed to make it harder for us to help those students and to make those students stop telling us things.
