GTA is very impressive and it just makes me tired to think about the number of hours and amount of content and systems and features that goes into making something like that

the thing about indie games is that if someone designs one single game I love, I’ll get whatever they make for the rest of their lives and pretty much always have a good time. people are so attached to ip but imo you really gotta know the creators.

Listening to a basketball podcast and I recently finished watching Foundation and I think instead of referring to players being in their prime, being young, etc, we should just say they’re in their Dawn, Day, Dusk eras

Nurses are absolute MAGIC. They are the heroes that walk among us… if you know a nurse buy them a beer give them a hug or a kiss or whatever they want, they deserve it all

Is there a way in the Steam backend to see sales over a period of time, with units/rev split by sales of SKUs on non-bundle discounts and SKUs that were full price?

heyyyyy IGF submissions for this year are open! If you're making a cool indie game I would love it if you would submit it! If you're thinking about it but not sure, I outline some reasons why you might (or might not) in detail here auratriolo.com/blog/2024/09...

it's 2026 how have we not solved the problem where calls get booked between two people and one person is stuck with a calendar event that starts with their own name and the other name is past the preview truncation. surely we have the technology for it to dynamically flip the names around per user

NEW: CWA union members have inflated a giant rat and deployed a wall of red flags representing laid off Xbox workers outside the Bethesda office in Rockville. The protest was timed to coincide with a visit from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who is apparently at the studio today.

it’s called an eclipse because the sun is on the computer and it’s playing doom and it just used the idclip cheat code people think it’s an old phenomenon but no it’s just another e-word for our electronic age, like email. thanks to id tech for letting the sun noclip the moon

(Screenshot of a Publisher’s Marketplace listing) Doom & Duty by Maddy Myers. Imprint: Grand Central. A detailed look at the history of first-person shooters, the gun lobby, violence, military simulators and recruitment tools, and the psychology of why it feels so satisfying to point a gun at someone’s head in a video game and pull the trigger, to Jacqueline Young at Grand Central, in an exclusive submission, for publication in summer 2028, by Charlie Olsen at Inkwell Management (world English).

genuinely wondering if there's any writing out there about the way that going from sub-10 employees to sub-20 constitutes an invisible and substantial danger for many indies as the studio goes from "everyone knows what they are doing" to "fairly substantial organizational overhead becomes necessary"
