the playlist between acts at the Allison Russell concert is just Brandi Carlile Returning to Myself Sad Gay Version 💗 also, one of the many things keeping me up last night was that I would have to find parking in Phoenixville, and I was WILDLY lucky

I am so excited to hear about this book! I have frequently used Linda's blog Not Another Music History Cliché in my previous teaching and would love to design a history or appreciation course around these essays! libraries.clemson.edu/press/books/...

literally cannot do research I planned to do in my research leave because bot harvesting is impacting the digital resources of the French national library so badly that I can barely access more than 5 images a day before “too many requests” error
The digital library of the National Library of France (Bibliothèque nationale de France), Gallica, is currently facing "a massive intensification in the harvesting of content by AI bots, which is degrading the service provided to our human users." What a dumb dystopia 😅
I love PerfectIt, but I think it should be like "first of all, here's all the inconsistent hyphenation and capitalization you *didn't* miss, great job."
I feel very upset that 1) I clicked the "Trump's 'love the meat' comment" trending topic in the first place, 2) the heading that came up was "Trump meat," and 3) the description included the phrase "Donald Trump shouted it with gestures."
My ballot is just four Safe Dem races (governor, US rep, state senator, state rep) and one referendum about land conservation, and it's not like I WISH I had to study for it, plus we have huge rectangles to fill in and I don't mind that I'll only have to do five, BUT I feel a little left out.
I'm pretty tired of the right wing's "so-called pastor" schtick lobbed at anyone who went to seminary, is affiliated with a mainstream Christian denomination alongside tens of millions of Americans, and hasn't explicitly signed their soul over to a criminal octogenarian lecher
Happy Ace Week to everyone except the guy at the mattress store who Made It Weird when I came in to buy a twin bed for myself!
"Happy birthday, hope you're having a good day!!" yeah, it's been great, I got to start my forties with a mattress sales guy being super weird and inappropriate about the fact that I'm happily single 😐
I took typing (sorry, "keyboarding") class in seventh grade and did okay, spent that summer posting on Star Wars forums, and came back in eighth grade adult-with-a-typing-job fast.
this is not even the first job where I've had coworkers ask "how did you learn to type so fast?" okay guys well there's this thing called a "forum," and sometimes people in it are *wrong*, so
i found out when i saw three pictures in a row of bolsonaro in the hospital

Today's historic find. Cartoon of Aaron Copland accompanying the article, "L'Enfant Terrible Who Wrote 'Jazz' Concerto Discusses Music's Trend," in the San Francisco Examiner in 1928.
Id like Gary and Steven to know that I just received the shittiest peer review ever from someone for my book which amounted to 12 years of work, and it was so bad that I asked if it was AI generated, and lo and behold, it was. So with all due decorum/professionalism to Gary and Steven, fuck you.

To flip some discourse script for a bit: what’s y’all’s Obama number (ie degrees of separation with the former president)? Mine is 3
Who is going around telling people there's a Citation Rule that titles go in title case and subtitles go in sentence case? 😩
"Ruin a song by adding 'in my pants' to the title" is literally the hymnal game we played in the back pew as horrible teens. Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing in My Pants; I Come with Joy in My Pants; Precious Lord, Take My Hand in My Pants... ("Erin, I think you're going to hell" no, it's fine)
A word introduced by “called” or the like doesn’t usually need to be put in quotation marks or italics (e.g., those are called potatoes). Details in the Q&A.

a few weeks ago, there was a music news story that proclaimed that going to concerts alone was NOT sad!!!! and it was one of the dumbest things I'd read in a long time: www.salon.com/2026/10/21/t...
The case for going to concerts alone — and why it isn’t sad
Live music is better on your own terms. You don’t need anyone else to enjoy a show.

From the people who brought you a million “has social justice corrupted scholarly standards?”-pieces: shouldn’t scholarship be generated like Minecraft maybe?
Opinion: If AI is now part of academic writing, what should institutions actually evaluate? This essay argues that analytical writing should be judged by evidence, structure, argument, and accountability not by guesses about how each sentence was produced. https://chroni.cl/4eDRdjg
i wish we would frame the issue of scholars using AI to write as a direct replacement for the traditional role of the faculty wife. this writing has always been gendered labor which is why it (like the humanities generally) is devalued
Writing something with AI and then asking a copy editor to “make it sound less like AI” is like building a house upside down and inside out and then asking a drywall contractor to “fix it.” Girl, you need to knock down the whole house and start over.
I co-produced and played/sang in 100+ videos for online church. Here's one I can share because I'm the only person in it (4x); I wrote the arrangement too.

I have a question for the masses This came up at work. In 2020 was your COVID lockdown hobby if you had one? I’ll go first. I joined an ant colony on Facebook. 😭 (don’t ask)
I haven't deleted my academia dot edu account because sometimes it's the only way I can access an article I need to look at for copyediting reasons (in this case, unfortunately confirming my hunch that a quote had been back-translated), and every time I go on there, it's gotten scammier.
Obviously I figured this would happen at some point, given the whole situation, but: oof. It says XPN Free at Noon will still be there (I admit I was selfishly hoping for Ardmore), and idk, that sounds... haunted? Like every week you go and the Abandoned Building energy is a little stronger?
World Stage, formerly known as World Cafe Live, told staffers that its final day will be October 31.
My current copyediting projects that are mostly citation editing: 1) unpleasant house style (80% Chicago 17, 20% Some Choices) 2) converting APA to Chicago 17 footnotes (so, full first names, cities of publication) but the majority of the sources are in a language I can't read even a tiny bit
