🧵 “Food systems sit at the intersection of virtually every major challenge philanthropic capital is trying to solve. True cost accounting makes that intersection legible and actionable.” – @annalappe.bsky.social and @jennxer.bsky.social

⚠️ We are at a tipping point. UN agencies, governments and more already recognize the potential of #TrueCostAccounting. Now with the new Action Agenda, momentum is building to mainstream this approach and transform how global food systems are valued. Find out more 👇

@capitalweather.bsky.social Anyone else reporting a meteor? Saw something bright streak across the sky looking north from Rosslyn!
Thousands of people gleefully upending the wholesome traditions of America’s pastime for some woke nonsense called “Banana Ball.” End times.
Challenge: post your last photo taken in DC to show what a hell-hole it is.
Tornado warning for north central DC to NW Prince George’s county til 7p. Radar indicated rotation and possible weak tornado. Seek shelter in this zone. #cwgalert
it’s even more demoralizing when the history you’re repeating is history you were around for the first time

A huge proportion of climate solutions journalism is focused entirely on 'we promise this can be fixed without you having to change anything', and they'll accept wild, absurd and almost fraudulently misleading greenwashing uncritically so that message can be preserved (also see: the seaweed guy)
This is disgusting. If this is how they treat Alex Padilla, a United States Senator, how do you think they’ll treat you?
Need to see more of this from Democratic leaders. Hats off to Senator Padilla.

Exactly. And similarly, we’re seemingly unable to comprehend how spending money (for example on government programs and research) actually saves money. DOGE cost cuts are going to cost us many times what they save.
A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Truly. I think of this every time I travel to countries with poor air quality and unsafe drinking water. We take it for granted.
Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.
TCA is gaining traction as a robust tool to guide food system decision-making. It’s time to take this approach mainstream. Scaling Implementation: A True Cost Accounting Global Summit 📅 April 15-16, 2025 📍Hosted by UN Food and Agriculture Organization Learn more: summit.tcaaccelerator.org

We worked for months with USAID to build an $85,000,000 project to end TB in two regions of the Philippines. The project is funded by private money, the Philippine government, and matching USAID funds. It could provide a blueprint for eliminating TB worldwide--except it's...not happening.
