In short, their exists an entire online ecosystem that turns the mistakes of growing young adults into permanent albatrosses around their necks. The internet is now a lolcow factory that we toss kids into like logs into a woodchipper. Its not sustainable in the slightest.

I thank God every day I did my "growing up" phase on a more anonymous internet. I've left behind scraps of an embarassing past but if I had done all that today? The stack of 10 minute "The Wootmaster Situation" vids would have stretched to the moon and back.

And even if they do change persona after the inevitable happens, there are now sites full of people who have made it their mission to trace people's identities in order to tie them to previous mistakes in their lives. Growth and reconciliation is no longer possible. The Incident is who you are now.

Same thing goes for existing online as well. Kids no longer have the safety net of existing as a cringy yet disposal forum handle or string of anonymous imageboard posts. They're immediately shunted onto social media under a persistent persona that follows them the rest of their life.

well this kinda hit me like a ton of bricks not to "kids today" but it's fucked that so many people can't even remember existing in a world where you couldn't be clipped by some shitbag's phone video recording to get clowned on social media for. That's such a ubiquitous risk of being outside now

Kids and teens immediately become "Content creators" or roblox game devs or artists of popular AUs or whatever and gain instant attention and scrutiny before they know how to handle it. Then the google docs and exposed vids rain down before they even hit 18 and their online lives are fucked.

A note on Royce White, the former NBA player who says he's entering the WNBA draft, a judge ruled he abused his wife and teenage son in an April court order and determined he could not have contact with either of them for 50 years. Great way to "protect women's sports" transphobes.

For local folks, he’s the guy who ran against Amy Klobuchar in the last Senate election and again this upcoming election. IIRC, he once posted a map of “violent crime” in Minneapolis that later turned out to be a municipal map of all the public drinking fountains. He’s also scared of flying.
