More internationally trained physicians can now apply directly for a full licence to practice in BC. The changes reduce red tape, help qualified physicians begin practicing sooner and strengthen access to care for people throughout the province.

A colleague at edge of Ebola breakout is trying to prevent spread and isolate victims. NGOs have pulled out of region. Immediate funds are needed (tents, ethanol, etc). What's the best mechanism or organization to direct $ immediately? No time for slow processes, but creditability important. Advice?
A first for me today. My Air Canada flight into Pearson executed a "go around" just as we were about to be wheels down on the runway. (We circled and landed without issue on try #2.) Is this common?
Did not see this post until hitting post on my last message. Glad to see this resource spread.

I have a scientist joke, but with an n of 1, it's not that significant.
I have a teaching joke, but I can't tell it today, so as a substitute you can watch a video.

I realize that to people outside the PNW this is just an interesting news item, but if you're in the PNW, where tracking orca pods is a local religion, this is basically like being visited by alien gods
A mysterious trio of orcas, unknown to scientists, showed up in Canada’s busy Vancouver Harbour, later heading south to Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia.
Construction is well underway on the new centre for health complexity at BC Children's Hospital, a first-of-its-kind facility in Canada. 🏗️ This new centre will help connect families across BC with the services, & care they need. The project is on budget & on track to open in early 2028.

A n important step towards putting our health data under our control... Health data in Canada is indeed a "hot mess"
Data, data everywhere but nothing to connect it to health care. Canada spends billions on computer systems but sharing info is marred by a stunning lack of interoperability, by @picardonhealth.bsky.social www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/0fc7a92... via @theglobeandmail.com
As an immigrant and in these challenging times, the Canadian flag holds important meaning to me. Sadly the flag at my local school is bedraggled. Would love to see photos of your school's flag to know this is not normal. @vsb39.bsky.social @adriandix.bsky.social #NorquaySchool

Very happy to share our paper rdcu.be/eUImj out today in @natcellbio.nature.com 🎉🎉🎉 We uncover an unexpected role for endogenous Xist RNA in regulating X-linked genes that escape X-inactivation.
Escape from X inactivation is directly modulated by Xist noncoding RNA
Nature Cell Biology - The authors show that increased Xist RNA levels can induce de novo silencing of genes that normally escape X inactivation. SPEN depletion prevents the silencing of escape...
