Dorothy B. Porter changed libraries 💜 The Dewey Decimal System used to only have two classifications for Black people: 325 (colonization) & 326 (slavery). Each book by a Black person was put into one of these classifications. A book of poetry? Classified as colonization. Enter Dorothy B. Porter 🧵

Minuscule of stature, he was an intellectual giant and incredibly generous colleague and mentor. Gifted with a photographic memory, he had a habit of reciting his written papers from memory rather than reading from a print-out.

Indeed! This narrative of 'first this, that and the other' reduces women to novelty status and claims filmmaking as a male endeavour - what rubbish!

Lois Weber had only been dead for 11 years! But erased so quickly.
