This is a quick thread which is worth reading & understanding about the flow on effects from what is happening to games & their creators in AAA. Even if things improve for game workers, the inertia means we're going to see stuff not be so great for a while yet… Sadly.

Already noticed some AAA games from the last few years slipping in quality due to the attack on labourers by the wealthy class and uh... I think gamers need to know it's gonna keep deteriorating in small ways, not a big bang Games will still drop for a while, but they'll be quietly worse

Feels nice this morning to have put together a test harness for testing new tracks without having to modify the game, or mess about with config stuff. Especially handy now I’m slowly working away on progression systems.

Because of course. Though, considering some streams, maybe it'll be good for polluting the training data. (And if the training data gets polluted, maybe then they'll be useless. I can only hope…)

Twitch and Amazon are apparently planning to use streams to train Generative AI. Multiple sources tell me it will be announced in the coming months, despite some internal friction against it. Creators may be able to opt out of some training data.

There's something which saddens me at some really deep level to see people happily become sloperators when it comes to crafting code, music, art or anything really. There is something inspiring about the act of creation - even if it's naff, it's YOURS, and that's a fundamental part of humanity.

That thing as winding down for bed and jerkbrain just has to remind you of crappy things. In positives - managed to finish up an important bit of work on the game (a feature for tiers of challenge), also started work on logo stuff (which I need for a thing) too. Smol victories are victories. 🖤

We need more Keyboard Overlays. There’s something kind of special about having one over your computer keyboard. A shame that we don’t have such things for modern games. But I guess controllers took care of that…

Nothing kicks the wind of my sails as a creative person than seeing shit like this. The "you should give us money to plug your shit" thing is tiring. Especially when it's a platforms job to show it. Won't lie, but it does make me wonder whether I should throw the towel in sometimes.

For #RandomGameSaturday, I pulled out Fort Apocalypse in its original Atari 8-bit release (as published by US Gold in the UK). Fly into caverns, rescue the hostages and avoid all the nasty traps. It may not be the first chopper-based hostage rescue game you think of, but it’s still a classic!

This is the kind of shit that people who truly give a shit about look at when it comes to emulating (whether hardware or software or whatever) old games. It's a large commitment, and how many slop core creators will be here for the long haul? Friends don't let friends use slop cores.

I feel like these new MiSTer "devs" don't actually understand the meaning of the term 'cycle accurate', and what the goal of the project is. You don't get cycle accuracy by vibe coding your way through mame files without a regard for how a game is supposed to run. Be it for arcade boards or similar.
