He/him. Fan of Lego, cartoons, and video games. I go by "Lyichir" on most Lego forums and on Twitch.

ProPublica spoke to dozens of people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.” We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words. ➡️ This is what they wrote:

Handwritten notecard. Prompt at the top asks: What object was most devastating for you to lose, and how have you been coping? Answer below: Dentures. Were thrown away and coping isn't somthing I can do. It’s made me feel ugly, unworthy, can’t go get a job with no teeth. So how can get off the streets until another pair can be made?

it's such a joy being able to present a game that changed my life for a live audience with two of the creators of the game on commentary. thanks to Greg and Lena for joining me, and to everyone in the greater speedrunning community who welcomed me in when i showed up running this game five years ago

Do you think kids will listen when you go "okay so you know those wizard books and movies you love so much? The lady who wrote them is BAD so you can love everything she does, just know she's BAD, okay? Don't listen to anything she says except for what she says in her books which are good"???

Absolutely the hell not. It is so exhausting seeing these cis liberal folks with huge platforms go OH I LOVE TRANS RIGHTS SO HERE'S A WAY YOU CAN STILL CONSUME HARRY POTTER AND IT'S OKAY. It isn't. She isn't dead. She is actively harming lives, constantly. She is her work. They cannot be separated.

Peter Sagal @petersagal.bsky.soci... 3d I've said it before, and I've said it again: the Harry Potter books are terrific, especially when read aloud. They appeal to any child who is told they are special and great things are expected of them, and yet they have no idea how to live up to that.
I heard the author died. Not sure. Too
bad.

seeing this spread by well-meaning accounts. but I don't think this is actually happening and it also strikes me as extremely dangerous both for legal exposure (imitating officers is a fairly serious crime) and for physical safety.

Every. Single. Problem. In this entire story can be easily remedied by one simple solution, which is don’t fucking let your cat wander around outside completely unsupervised! You can’t be outraged and furious about what your cat gets up to when you don’t even know where it is!

Guardian US@us.theguardian.com · 2d ago

Has your cat been gaining weight and staying out at night, only to arrive home reeking of marijuana? These are just some of the signs that a neighbour is trying to entice them away ...

As someone who keeps their Facebook around largely to keep up with older friends/relatives... it's depressing to see how many older people are so ambivalent about sharing AI videos/memes. Like they don't care if something's real or had effort put into it as long as it makes them smile or laugh...

Several mentions of the use of these chambers to “treat” things like adhd & autism, when they do nothing of the sort. Zero mention of the fact that this entire industry is an unregulated scam which is putting kids at risk every single day, even without the fires. I’m so angry at this framing.

A man has is sentenced to more than a year in prison in connection with the death of a boy who was killed in a fiery explosion inside a hyperbaric oxygen chamber last year.

Congratulations to the New York Times' Euphemism Desk for coming up with a new one. Instead of stating that Maria Bartiromo was letting her guests lie, NYT says she was "permitting her guest commentators to free-associate." 1/2🧵

He had no such issues with Ms. Bartiromo, whose approach — at times permitting guest commentators to free-associate on live television — had not appeared to change much in the years since the Dominion settlement. Puck, a news website, earlier reported on Ms. Bartiromo’s conversations with Mr. Navarro.

That these guys are now proactively investigating black student phds on the off-chance they find something shows the whole game. Like what non-racist reason is there for a creepy journalist and washed up ev psych guy to give AF about current students’ theses enough to go on a fishing expedition?

It was never going to stop with Jason Arday. Our resident Bluesky creeper Ben Ryan is now turning his attacks onto Jason Arday's students--no doubt the fact that the student is a Black woman has nothing to do with Ryan and Wright's apparent concern for "academic rigor"

Cambridge Said Jason Arday Was an ‘Aberration.’ So Why Was the Shaky PhD Thesis He Approved Sealed Until 2031?

and I obtained a Cambridge PhD thesis—one of questionable academic rigor—that Dr. Arday examined and that was put under a new, five-year embargo just after the scandal about Dr. Arday broke.

The PhD thesis of a student in Cambridge’s Faculty of Education—in which the late Jason Arday held a professorial chair, in the sociology of education, until he resigned hours after Cambridge on Aug. 5 announced it was investigating him—has been put under what British and Canadian academics have told Colin Wright and me is a remarkably long embargo, shielding it from public view until 2031.

Crucially, among the panelists who reviewed the thesis was Dr. Arday himself.

The thesis, which we have obtained and which we review in this Substack, raises important questions about whether the Faculty of Education, including Dr. Arday’s own contributions, let down the basic standards of higher education.

“this person is bad so their work was always bad” is also a really dangerous view to take because it leads to - unconscious or not - a bias towards “but I do like this other person’s work, ergo they must be a good person” which, as we have seen over and over, is simply not true

What happens a lot on social media is when someone (Warren Ellis, Neil Gaiman now Ed Brubaker) has allegations thrown at them people tend to leap out the woodwork saying "their work was never good." That helps no one as it's irrelevant. What matters is their actions and what they did.
