🔞pro-ship. ngl, i'm mainly here to vent negativity and rubberneck dumb arguments. fandom, politics, obnoxious pedantry, horny nerd shit. Liberals and Democrats are Good, Actually.

as i continue to shart my thoughts out: it sucks that "give charity in a way that works really well" and "put brain in computer bc death fucking sucks" were taken up by assholes bc if i had lots of $$ i would like to give to charity in whatever way is most helpful & also death fucking sucks

I don't read the news anymore bc it's all terrible, so once Ds regain the WH, me & a bunch of normies are going to emerge into the news landscape, blinking, wondering why everything sucks. then they'll blame it on the D prez & vote in Rs :///// www.nytimes.com/2026/09/16/c...

Trump Administration Moves to Gut a Core Endangered Species Protection

An internal memo reinterprets the law so that only the intentional killing of animals, not collateral harm, is illegal.

Most people have a deep need to feel as though the monsters that are killing them are intelligent and devious. Most people take a slim solace in being overcome by a manipulative mastermind. Unfortunately Robert Kennedy is a compulsive conspiracy theorist. We are being killed by an idiot.

stan twitter speak (who's in, who's out, who's a flop), the rare occasions on which i hear it... like i love gossip & mess but the idea of "this artist is OVER, so sad" just... idk, it grates the nerd in me so hard, it's judging things on a metric that repels me

In WA, we are building a coalition of local Dem party orgs that are pushing impeachment. Multiple LDs & County orgs have passed pro-impeachment resolutions. The base wants this. Active party members want this. Today the bat signal went out. If you want to be a part of this WA Dem coalition, DM me.

In whatever field that you have expertise in, it's such a communication challenge to convey how bad other humans have been treated by the present regime without creating so much dissonance that the person shuts down.

me to my mom, based on the "Chinese AI engineers aren't freaking out and US ones are" posts: "so either AI is gonna kill us all or the US dudes are basically playing Bloody Mary and freaking each other out like me and my friends did in 5th grade" my mom: wait, you what?

Much worse. In a nutshell, they're fine with humans going extinct, but they're freaked out that it may happen before they figure out how to upload their consciousness into a giant data center.

was at a session with the top NUS AI experts yesterday, most of them Chinese, and this was true to a person. they discussed the future of AI as (a) a material buildout problem, (b) boringly relevant in workplaces, and (c) specifically a problem in education.

US researchers tend to be atheists in the Christian tradition, so they crave materialist alternatives to Pascal’s Wager (Roko’s Basilisk), the Book of Revelation (Accelerando), Opus Dei (Rationalists) etc., & they have the zeal of converts I think China trends more calm about that sort of idea

I guess I’m just really skeptical of this! Noticeably the Europeans(not in rationalist circles) aren’t freaking out as much either, though their labs are a bit further behind.

I think "they're not allowed to" is actually sufficient. I can tag some 中国同s in the morning, but the political pressures are also career pressures. These won't be so much overt "don't say anything!" but rather "any concerns must go through proper channels".
