Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on. slate.com/technology/2...

I wish we didn’t need this conversation but given the state of affairs with law firms it was great to sit down with my friends @stevevladeck.bsky.social & Karen to talk about what’s going on, why it’s troubling, and maybe where there is still room for hope 🙏. Thanks for having me!

Bonus 146: Trump vs. the Law Firms

Jenner's lawyer recognizes the "over 2000 individuals, organizations and law firms" who filed amicus briefs. They're a "breathtaking left, right, conservative, progressive constellation" of groups, sharing a common theme: The "deeply unconstitutional" EOs “undermine what it means to be a lawyer."

Agreed. 100%. Lawyers were worried about using e-mail. Search engines. The cloud. Now if you don’t use them you are not doing your job. And the actual confidentiality risks of many AI tools are equal to or less than many of the technologies that lawyers use all the time. *Please don’t throw 🍅 *

Following up on the AI in law discussions from this morning, I think one thing people forget is that lawyers, and especially mid career lawyers, do a enormous amount of work that is not for their clients and is not confidential, and is very suited to support by AI tools.

Delighted to share that I have been selected as the recipient of the Berger Award. Those who know me know how passionate I am about promoting legal writing as a scholarly discipline, so this means a lot to me. Grateful for all the colleagues who supported me along the way.

Congratulations to @elliemargolis.bsky.social for earning The Linda Berger Award for Excellence in Legal Writing Scholarship. So well deserved! #legalwriting.

I should pause to note that you *should* use LLMs in your work. I find them really valuable and time-saving. The trick is you gotta read all the sources they unearth—something you should do in your research anyway!
