Christopher Webb@cwebbonline.com · 10h agoThe clearest sign yet of Trump’s paranoia. 📌 The military deployed surface-to-air missiles around Mar-a-Lago, at the request of the Secret Service, citing a “heightened threat environment.” The man who promised to make America safe again needs missile defenses in his own backyard.
At first I was going to protest, but now I learned that bold conjectures are "a new, daring, and highly risky theoretical proposition that significantly stretches our understanding of the world". I think I can live with that.

Spannender Beitrag! Das angesprochene Drittel der Arbeiter mit progressiveren Migrationseinstellungen findet sich auch in den GLES-Daten zur Bundestagswahl 2025. Es ist auch etwa so groß wie der Anteil der Arbeiter, die AfD wählt, macht am gesamten Elektorat aber eben nur einen kleinen Teil aus.

I think that "voters like politicians who stand up to bullies" is an almost simplistic, but non-negligible part of this. European politicians should give pushing back a try – on Trump's tariffs as much as on his murderous foreign policy that also makes us all poorer and unsafer.

Wow that was quick. So under Trump, the US is not only clearly unwilling to honor Article 5 in case of war, it also shows a total lack of concern for military readiness for such an event. Russia will surely have taken note, but I am less sure about European capitals.
Ein homogen weiße Ethnofestung wäre also laut Sarrazin ein besseres Deutschland. Und er redet so als wäre ein so konstituiertes Deutschland ein ganz normales Land inklusive EU-Mitgliedschaft, und nicht das Resultat eines Projekts das schwer mit den Werten des Grundgesetzes vereinbar ist.

One of the Islamophobic right's talking points in the months and years after 9/11 was that Islam doesn't value human life as much as Western liberalism does. Fast forward 25 years, and an explicit throughline of the far right and Trump II is that caring too much about saving lives makes us weak.
Apparently, for the editor-in-chief of the Economist, someone can hold the view that Hitler was a communist and still be a "perfectly thoughtful person".

Germany supports war on Lebanon to combat non-state armed actors, but blocks even the mildest measures to hold Israel accountable for its army openly collaborating with non-state armed actors in a campaign of ethnic cleansing. Genuinely drives me up the wall.
