Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts. Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.
Finally, we’ve solved a long-standing mystery: what tintinnid shells are actually made of: A new class of biomaterial formed by remarkable structural proteins unique to tintinnids. A major milestone after 3 years of work! Read about it in our preprint: doi.org/10.64898/202... #ProtistsOnSky
Microbial eukaryotes keep challenging assumptions about eukaryotic cell and genome biology. Our upcoming workshop explores the frontier of protist genomics and how it shapes cell biology, ecology and evolution. Please save the date! Talks, posters and ECR events Websites and details coming soon

I think we need to keep repeating this point —that decisions by this admin, by the EPA Secretary confirmed by our Senators, by DOGE as Nick Begich III & Dan Sullivan enthusiastically cheered it on —directly impacted Kipnuk’s destruction. Alaskans need to see that politics affect homes, bodies, lives
"The E.P.A. grant was intended to fund Kipnuk’s river stabilization project for three years. Planning, design & some construction were supposed to happen between June and September, when the river would have thawed enough for barges to bring supplies to the village." It was cancelled last spring 🫠

Critical part of the President's new $100,000 charge for H1-B visas: The Administration can also offer a $100,000 discount to any person, company, or industry that it wants. Replacing rules with arbitrary discretion. Want visas? You know who to call and who to flatter.
We just created a huge number of political prisoners for no reason.
Microsoft gave guidance on H1Bs to its employees last night

This is happening *now* in the 2025 fiscal year. We have no guarantee that if Congress does not pass the severe budget cuts the administration wants that the administration simply won't fund things.
“This year the NSF has awarded only $32 million, representing a 72 percent reduction. By this metric, mathematics is one of the most deeply affected subjects, second only to physics, which has seen an 85 percent reduction.“
Saw a good size coyote while walking the dog. It didn’t stick around for a decent pic.
DO NOT GIVE UP! Our advocacy is working. A key Senate committee has indicated that it will reject Trump’s proposed cuts to science agencies including NASA and the NSF. Keep speaking up and calling your electeds 🗣️🗣️🗣️
I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.
