I teach science and run a game club at a public high school, showing each generation how to play and be a better community member. he/him

Here’s a MtG draft pod that’s majority Black, and majority female, and that’s not a rare thing at my local game club, and I hope that one day they’ll be joining the local game stores of our community so it’s not a rare thing to have such diversity, too. 👨‍🏫

8 students standing around a classroom lab table drafting Magic.

My cool birding story is being in a summer grad class at UW in 2012, taught by a PhD in ornithology, and a PhD in odonatology. On day 1 they suggested the class goes birding and I kept trying to coordinate it, but there’d be bad weather or a scheduling conflict. To this day, I’ve never gone birding.

I did it. I built a birdwatching Commander deck. Deck rules: 1. Every card has to have an obvious visual or flavor connection to birds or birdwatching. 2. Bird creatures have to look like regular birds (i.e. no Aven). 3. Every card comes with a related, Wingspan-style bird fact. #MTG #Birdmander

The Magic card Kastral, the Windcrested, which reads:

Legendary Creature — Bird Scout

Whenever one or more Birds you control deal combat damage to a player, choose one —

• You may put a Bird creature card from your hand or graveyard onto the battlefield with a finality counter on it.

• Put a +1/+1 counter on each Bird you control.

• Draw a card.

Hello, new followers from the TCC video! I’m Snow, and I like talking about biology, Star Trek, and drawing (usually creepy) Magic: the Gathering alters! I am NOT currently taking commissions bc I’m a busy college student, but keep an eye out for impromptu sales & reach out if you have questions!
