This. Be positive. This set not for you? Keep it pushing.
At the end of the day...with MTG, if a card is bringing people joy and not harming anyone....that good. Whether in-universe or universe beyond. A hobby is meant to be enjoyed. Also, with UB...designers want to make cards around there favorite things and you can tell by the love they put in it.
On the subject of The Hobbit...here is one of my most prized possessions! A custom bound copy of The Hobbit made by my wife for my birthday!
Alien Invasion is a card that's still looking for the perfect home in Standard. So far, this Gruul deck is the most fun use for games on the MTG Arena ladder. youtu.be/6FTGq-T2NzQ

My dad showing me these whales is a formative reason for being the way I am and he has no idea....this is the latest common for me to go and be like I NEED 50 just on reference alone
While my knowledge of Star Trek is not great, good to see the joy it's bringing to people...granted, it still surprised me to hear how this was a Star Trek reference.
I think Star Trek 4 was the first Trek thing I ever saw. My folks rightfully felt it was a family-friendly and fun intro the franchise. While I never became a Trek guy, I have a huge soft spot for this movie.

For the uninitiated, Star Trek literally had a Save The Whales Era (1986) movie plot for ST4: The Voyage Home. George and Gracie got saved in 1986 and brought to the 24th century to answer an alien probe that was absolutely fucking up the Earth because it didn't get a reply in whale song

I will say...having MB3, new secret lair news, and a bunch of Star Trek cards before even the Hobbit prerelease...makes this a interesting week to say at the least.
Everyone's gonna whine like we didn't just have a weekend of the deepest ass in-universe cuts but in my house we put respect on Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (Literally said "hell yeah" without thinking)

As for my opinion on the card. Design: Just ya solid creature removal Reference: Look, I see people split on this card....I get it, but, overall, I think it's fine. Not anticipating people yelling this at LGS stores, but besides that, it's fine.
Hey .....they did the thing!
Speaking of random commons, this card being all flavor text is perfect and I love it.
Cynical as many can be about UB, the amount of joy a random draft common is bringing to players and Star Trek fans is cool to see.

Ok, not a Star Trek person (didn't watch any of the shows/movies) and even I admit that pretty cool looking
Hoooo buddy the Magic color pie transporter prop is dope. This is gonna be awesome as hell for photo ops in Atlanta if they bring it.
Hey Magic the Gathering BlueSky, if you're wondering why the Intro Deck cards were dropped into the Card Gallery... Here ya go for the "why": The biggest Star Trek convention of the year is starting today.
STLV Opening ceremonies imminent! Stay tuned to my X, Threads, and BlueSky for con recaps and thoughts throughout the week! @creationent.bsky.social
You may have heard some rumblings through the leylines this week. 👀 And we're happy to report... the rumblings are TRUE. Shoebox is BACK in 2027, and we hope to see you all there June 25th - 27th! 🎉 Stay tuned for important dates, badge info, and much more!
Since people might ask why we were seeing Star Trek cards. Big Star Trek convention in Vegas. Had Welcome decks available so WOTC updated the card gallery to include cards in those decks.
Can come in as a fully stationed spaceship which is sweet as hell. Also not to go all "raccoon-eating-garbage' on you, but this is also in the same deck. Surveil 1 on ETB for U seems like a setup for several shenanigans (probably a pile for the kitten)
There are not a lot of high power cards shown off with the Star Trek Welcome deck....except this card. That....has some potential.
Where did you get your PhD, in a mtg booster pack?
Ok....that's kind of funny with Clara from Doctor Who.
@magic.wizards.com FYI: "70,000 Light-Years from Home" is broken on the card image gallery. magic.wizards.com/en/products/...

I learned about ya recently.
OhmygodOhmygodOhmygod!!! I love this so much. Lower Decks has been the comfort show in my house since it came out. It’s also my nickname for my son. This makes me so indescribably happy. I want so many of these.
