#1 board game pet peeve: A bad rulebook. There are so many ways to go wrong: hard to navigate, ambiguous, not enough examples or pictures, components not labeled, no index, doesn't follow the game flow. Writing a solid rulebook is a skill and an art, even for simple games, and many fall short.
