Seeing an unusually large number of "needle in Halloween candy" stories from Canadian police and media this year. So here's your periodic reminder that these historically turn out to be hoaxes, stunts or misunderstandings and NOT "psycho tries to injure kids en masse" situations:

Why the urban legend of contaminated Halloween candy won't disappear | WNYC

There is no evidence of any deaths or injuries from contaminated Halloween candy. Why are people still afraid of it?

This is the proudest tradition of English actors. Acting is an art form but it's also a job and you do that job with the same commitment and personal pride your dad, who absolutely thinks you are gay, brought to mining coal

Deeply respect Patrick Stewart who held theater in the highest regard, brought pathos and authority to our televisions and then also did any old bull shit movie that would write him a check. Exactly the right way to exist in the industry.

I don't know how to say this other than: if there was one fictional character whose approval I most would have craved, it was Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard. (Tom Baker as the Doctor probably woud have been second).

Patrick Stewart, ‘Star Trek’ Captain and ‘X-Men’ Superhero, Dies at 86

He’s forever known for playing Jean-Luc Picard and Charles Xavier, whom he “admired for their morality, for their kindness, for their sensitivity, for their compassion.”

Jean-Luc Picard was an early role model of mine, but I think what's most striking about the life of Patrick Stewart is that an early role model of mine could just as easily have been Patrick Stewart himself and I would have come out okay.

One Saturday afternoon (summer 1999?) I was walking south on Yonge Street from College with a friend. It was when we crossed at Gerrard when i noticed Patrick Stewart was behind us.

People in TO deserve to feel relieved post-election. For me it's all the new, ostensibly progressive (we'll see), faces on council. That said, nobody should be happy with the mayor's campaign, and of all the morning-after takes i think @graphicmatt.com expresses it best:

Matt Elliott: Olivia Chow wins — but with serious warning signs for Toronto’s progressive movement

A tighter-than-expected re-election leaves the mayor facing questions about passive leadership, thin plans and an unclear second-term agenda.

Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day. Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.
