New music from Dead Man’s Bones? Just in time for Halloween? So wildly ON BOARD!
I always loved seeing the skeleton of the old pier when we lived in Brighton: I know one day it’ll be completely gone but it’s so sad seeing pieces of it being chipped away.

It’s @metalforgood.bsky.social’s Metal Merch Day, raising funds for music-led community projects to improve metal health, support young people and amplify underrepresented voices. I can’t wear all my shirts at once so I went with this one. Yes, it’s crumpled. To find out more, visit metalforgood.org
They’re at it again. I can’t even eat venison but my god
I have a problem. Before our trip to Stockholm I followed one of the restaurants we were going to for dinner (they post their daily specials on instagram) and they keep posting stuff like this and it makes me furious I can’t just go again but also looks so beautiful I can’t bear to unfollow them.
Well, I’ve just discovered Blood Incantation’s ‘Absolute Elsewhere’ and it’s a delight (if you like this sort of thing, which I do)
Holy shit, hadn't seen this over here (makes sense cause the ad didn't run here, but wish @bookshop.org would post more here, the place where people love books!). Great, firm response. So dumb and insidious of Meta.
I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise
No-one is doing it like Bristol.

You wait for one open letter, and two come along at once! Some great names on this New Statesman statement. The support from this and the 800 who've so far signed the authors and illustrators statement is quite heartening. And it's pissing off the most unsurprising people.
Proud to sign this open letter in the @newstatesman1913.bsky.social. www.newstatesman.com/cover-story/...
Happy birthday, Torchwood! Without you, I would never have got the chance to spend five years writing sometimes spooky (The Vigil, my precious), occasionally headache-inducing (Aftershocks, I’m looking at you) and timey-wimey scripts- and I’d never have got to write for my beloved War Master either.
Happy 20th birthday to the most glorious group of screwed-up, fabulously-dressed, alien-fighting bisexuals the world has ever seen #torchwood
Our local chip shop has fallen. Just had a flyer for them through the door and, yep, it’s AI.
A couple who play-test games get sent a new one that’s essentially D&D if it was written by Lovecraft and Crowley. Things go exactly as you might expect… but even weirder, and far more stressful. This ship is bananas, b-a-n-a-n-a-s
Neuter your cats. All four of the cats we’ve had were neutered as kittens. With males, neutering also means you’re less likely to have to deal with higher levels of aggression and territorial marking like spraying. It’s a win all round. (If you adopt, shelters will often neuter before rehoming.)
‘We really need help’: RSPCA faces capacity crisis as cats arrive faster than they can be rehomed
Of course they did. Perfection.
There were 27 miles of rope used for rigging in Master & Commander. Modern rope naturally coils in the opposite direction of rope made during the Napoleonic wars. So the production paid a shop to make period accurate cordage.
My husband is so tired of me asking him to tell me I'm overthinking things (I usually am, I just can't stop doing it) that he's started holding up imaginary signs like an exhausted Wile-E-Coyote. Apparently they say "Yes, you're overthinking it" and "No, you're overthinking it".
I tell literally everyone this, because I love it. The singing voice of adult Simba in the Lion King is Joseph Williams, son of composer John Williams and long time lead vocalist with Toto.
Every now and then I like to remind people that Channing Tatum did an absolutely flawless song and dance number in Hail Caesar because Hail Caesar is criminally underappreciated and "No Dames" is hilarious and good. www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3PQ...

Open this photo up and look for the small, white dot just left of centre. It looks like Venus, shining brightly in the twilight sky. But it's us. It's Earth. From Mars.
Got complimented on my taste while I was buying Rosalía’s Lux, Massive Attack’s Mezzanine & Ghost’s Infestissumam by the guy in the record shop, so naturally that’s made my day.
I have seen every imaginable insult, slur and term of abuse in witness statements in criminal cases over the years, describing the verbals uttered by a drunk defendant. Today, for the first time ever, I encountered a case where a police officer was called "a fucking satchel" and "a dirty biscuit".
I'm sure many of my followers are familiar with the popular MCM Comic Con events in the UK. But I imagine that few of them know that MCM stands for "mirror, cosplay, manoeuvre".
In contrast: this morning? Eleven degrees. That’s what I’m talking about.
Why is it so warm outside? It’s the middle of October, I don’t want TWENTY DEGREES. Where’s my autumn chill and mist? Where, might I ask, is my mellow fruitfulness?
And I can’t lie, this is probably why I’m into them. (Tonight’s one - without spoilers - made me sit up and go “They’re so cool! I want to be one of them!”)
I like how morbid the tasks on Traitors are now. They used to be like an outdoor pursuits week and now it's MR James meets death metal
the best way to pitch your book is to check your grip, assume a balanced stance, and as you throw, release the book when it's directly in front of your shoulder
I promise this is the last time I’m posting this today. But just… look how pretty it is.
For All This Time proofs! The thing that started out two years ago as an idea that gave me goosebumps is now something I can hold in my hand and that’s still absolutely wild to me. Anyway: love, loss, family, grief, yearning… and an impossible man who simply can’t finish his novel. Out April 2027.
