my neighborhood 7-11 closed a couple years ago and tried to reopen but couldn’t get the permit approved because there’s a preschool next door and 7-11s sell alcohol (the previous permit was grandfathered in). i saw a fence going up around the lot recently and looked up what was moving in: a gun shop
You can explain most science in a way that makes it comprehensible to non-scientists. You can't do the same thing with wild delusions.

AI invents fake quotes. AI-generated articles about me appear in mainstream sites with totally fake quotes and info. The Times of India ran one last week saying I run a garden center. Other articles say my children are named Isaac and Malachai. Clearly my garden center is in "Children of the Corn."

The quotes were all invented -- no one on the panel said that stuff -- even though the AI was given an audio recording of the whole thing. I told them to trash it and did the transcription myself.
Also important: IT'S NOT AI. It's a weak simalacrum that is being marketed as AI because the techbros can't actually make real AI. Instead, they've painted lipstick on LLMs and are parading them around at the dance as their real live girlfriends. And we're falling for it? Really?
The "AI" bill of goods we're being forced to take on isn't some inevitability. It's not a necessary product of progress. It's an artifice, an unwanted and mostly bullshit product created by end-stage capitalism to extract profit because the corporate giants have run out of things we want or need.
