It's really refreshing seeing shitey normal working class life depicted like this in a game, and a Silent Hill game no less. Pebble-dashed council flats, three-bar fires, Post Office counters, concrete shopping precincts. This must be how posh people felt playing Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

The inside of a council flat.A brutalist concrete shopping precinct.A block of council flats.A Post Office (well, 'Post Service') counter.

Seeing a five quid powercard in a Silent Hill game is mangling my mind more than any of the faceless shambling horrors.

hideo kojima loves to ask "what if a lone soldier took down a tank????" and then present you with the most looney-tunes-ass scenario you've ever seen in your life

Wipeout 3 (1999). Still transcendent in raw aesthetics, there's a timeless pleasure in precisely gliding over spiraling tracks of reinforced concrete at five hundred kilometers an hour to Sasha and Orbital.

An angular craft, like a stiletto or a surgical cavity separator, with vibrant livery of teal and yellow floats above the concrete. Meters in width, racing stripes legible at unthinkable speed paint the starting positions by an industrial port servicing a superfreighter larger than a skyscraper. This as all other images to follow is a PC emulated screenshot from Wipeout (1999).The immensity of the track curves down and inwards like a mobius strip of paper. Yellow chevrons adorn the obverse and sides. A craft, white and navy, curves reckless to the implied racing line.Emerald trees and a sky of cyan. Yet the track is shielded from this idyll by towering panes of glass or transparent polymer. A racing craft's engine flares like a phosphorous fire.A machine without superfluous geometry. Teal and yellow and with a vibrant engine flare like a falling star. Its tail elongate over the white stripes of the concrete track; its velocity terrifying.

at some point in my CS:Source map collecting days I extracted a map into my game folder which reskinned the default flatscreen television model with this frame from Batman V Superman on it. I'm not 100% sure how to revert it so he's been popping up everywhere for years at this point. hello batman.

Counter-Strike Source screenshot. The player is ignoring a match to consult a flatscreen television with a glowy-eyed Batman on it.

it's honestly criminal how using a hair straightener triples the amount of time that needs to elapse before my hair looks like it needs a wash. spent years trying to be gentle with it and getting nowhere and now I'm being rewarded for putting it in the torture tongs.

laser clinic here has a little ad slogan that says "a year from now, you'll wish you'd started today" and I just know that one has dealt critical damage to more than a few poor trans girls

started playing Reservoir Dogs for the PS2 and I still am struggling to believe it is a real game that exists. why are there vehicle sections. why is there a morality meter. why is there so much extra dialogue. why are there weirdly unique hostage-taking and ordering-people-at-gunpoint mechanics.

Third-person shooter screenshot. A man in a suit crouches behind a riot shield in the middle of a main street. Barricades and police cars are visible in the background. A prompt at the top of the screen says "Press Triangle to perform a Bullet Festival".Third-person driving screenshot. The player is in a blue muscle car racing a second green muscle car across a bridge.A post-chapter rating screen. There is meter that reads "Psychopath", "Career Criminal" and "Professional" in order, from left to right. The meter is currently leaning towards Psychopath.

been playing Beyond Good & Evil lately and it feels like a bit of a lost art to dangle "ooooooh you're gonna be able to FLY around the map at some point!!!!!" over the player's head for a dozen hours like that

I do think south melbourne markets are fun to visit but they're also maybe the worst place to experience suburbanite boomers staring openly at you like they've never seen a pair of transgender baddies in n95s

some people come back from a posting hiatus like "oh yeah I got my life in order teehee~" and I just want to reassure the gamers that'll never happen here. I am always mentally ill.

really mean and unfair for a conditioner to say "leave in for five minutes then rinse" when they know damn well I'm in the shower, a.k.a The Place Where Time Has No Meaning, The Domain Of Temporal Slip, The Eternal Contemplation Chamber

Devs today aren't brave enough to design enemy encounters like this anymore, they're too worried with stuff like "being fair" and "the player needs to know what the fuck is going on"
