“That is shocking. And no, I don’t mean the size and implications of this massive data breach…I mean that this is the story: “the LMS is down. We can’t do school.” This take down of LMS’s in light of he Canvas breach is even better than the one I posted earlier today. Read and take to heart.

That Damned LMS Dependency

For the second time in less than a year, a major disruption to the learning management system Canvas has prompted cries (and headlines) that “we can’t do school!” In the fall of 2025, an Amazon Web S...

tech companies: AI is going to take your job, decide whom to target in future forever wars, supplant all human connection, and entrap the average voter in a funhouse mirror version of reality that will make them incapable of making rational decisions. also tech companies: Why so afraid of AI??

People in the US really need to pay attention to what's happening with Palestine Action in the UK. Even if we get out from under Trump, we should expect to see these tactics deployed in the US, unless something truly transformative happens.

DID YOU KNOW? The states currently gerrymandering to remove Black political representation are also states that do not have bans on segregation in public accommodations? Once they finally overturn the Civil Rights Act of 1964 they’ll be free to fully live out their racial segregationist fantasies…

"The list of platforms that now mediate the basic functions of education ... is almost comically long ... most schools are running 10–15 different EdTech products that all promise efficiency, but in reality create confusion, frustration, and complicate what was once much simpler." 🎯

The Canvas hack that brought campuses globally to a standstill got me thinking about a piece that I wrote in @techpolicypress.bsky.social, about how “technology is the spinal cord of government.” I wrote a few thoughts on what this looks like in schools. www.thehomescreen.org/p/technology...

If Black votes didn't matter, they wouldn't be working this hard to steal them. You don't spend millions of dollars and pass dozens of restrictive laws to stop something that "doesn't matter."

If there's one thing I care about more than trans rights its that people at the lowest rungs of society have gifts and talents that equal that at the highest, and their gifts are being squandered, and no one really internalizes that or cares.

This semester I taught a course on the History of the Far Right in the US. We were lucky to have one of the Pacific Northwest's best contemporary chroniclers and interpreters of the far right, @leahsottile.bsky.social, visit the class. This piece by Leah was inspired by what she heard students say.

As extreme politics have normalized, young people have grown up not knowing any other way. For months, I've spent time getting to know 10 college students who literally do not recall a time in America without Trump. My latest for @thewesternedge.bsky.social www.thewesternedge.media/p/the-age-of...

so far, much of the analysis of Callais out there is focused on what the Court's rulings did to the Voting Rights Act, which is reasonable but now I want to talk about what the Court did to the Constitution bc the threat of Callais goes far beyond the VRA alone ballsandstrikes.org/scotus/alito...

Samuel Alito Didn’t Only Gut the Voting Rights Act. He Rewrote the Constitution, Too

The Court’s decision in Callais will make it more challenging for Congress to pass laws designed to protect multiracial democracy.
