Seeing the Irish president, Catherine Connolly, come to Belfast near everyday if not everyday for the historical moment of Fleadh Cheoil being hosted here for the first time is wholesome - a president walking through the city, watching people play, going to the pub. Presidency is different here.
I'd say failing crops, starvation, & societal breakdown is what should be averted, but what do I know, I'm not auditioning to be further right than Jim O'Callaghan & to lead FF into oblivion. #IrishPol
Climate Act curbs could be considered to avert infrastructure ‘paralysis’, Chambers says
I've just added another 25 paintings to the print shop I'm trying out after a year of no income, which brings the total number of paintings there now to 50. I'm not yet committed to it, but if it goes well I will add more paintings. #SpéirGhorm fineartamerica.com/profiles/4-l...

I'm approaching the anniversary of the last time I received any kind of income. Having to cancel my annual sale of original paintings and close my print shop, it's been not great for an unpaid carer. So over the next couple of weeks you'll see me push unsold paintings and try out some print options.
just a reminder the cathaoirleach of the AI committee has stock in a AI-based revenue intelligence company. Naoise insists the stock – whose value is only realisable if the company goes public – is not a conflict of interest for him as a TD forming AI legislation www.ontheditch.com/fianna-fail-...
AI committee FF TD has stock in IDF-vet-founded AI company
It was co-founded by a man who “conducted classified intelligence work” for the Israel Defense Forces.

just a note that the shop is going to be closing on Friday for about a month or so whilst we hopefully welcome a new housemate, so this is your last week to pick up some lovely handmade art for a while www.etsy.com/ie/shop/pray...
We’ve just rented a projector so the kids can watch some films over August and we’re trying to source and buy treats and snacks. Ionad Hind Rajab is about more than education. It’s about getting back a little bit of childhood. 👇
An Irish artist has helped establish a children's centre in Gaza that provides food, education and psychosocial support to children displaced by the war. Adam Doyle, better known as Spicebag, tells us why he helped create Ionad Hind Rajab. jrnl.ie/7117887
The lies and disinformation about #ClimateChange are constant. Don’t be fooled, and help call them out.
They can say summers have always been hot and we’ve always had wildfires and they can tell themselves all day that everything is the same as it always was but you know better They can gaslight themselves but not you. #ExtremeHeat #Wildfires #Smoke #ClimateChange #abpoli #cdnpoli
That "men should be allowed, without judgement or consequence, to do an amount of harm to women and girls that I personally deem acceptable" seems to be a genuine opinion still held by too many people in the year two thousand and twenty six is incredibly grim
"While the sector experienced a modest post-COVID bump in activity (...) data show that the country's domestic aviation emissions have declined in each of the past three years, descending 22% during the period 2023 through 2025." #Sufficiency works, if we dare. climatetrace.org/news/austria...
Austria and France banned short-haul flights to boost train travel and reduce emissions. Did it work?
Climate TRACE data point to encouraging outcomes, with much greater emissions reduction opportunity if such a shift were widely adopted globally.

Man. Drought likely caused by climate change lowers river levels, forcing closure of nuclear power plants and cutting electricity to car plants making mostly combustion engine cars.
Ford, Dacia halt Romania plants as energy crisis forces production cuts
FFG will talk the big talk for the 6 months, commission reports, design a plan for bases in Mizen Head, Doolin, & Belmullet, maybe even launch a recruitment campaign, but in the end will do nothing of substance mar is gnách. Not that I want any of that, but FFG can't deliver it anyway. #IrishPol
Is Ireland’s unprotected ocean the weak link in European defence?
There’s “off the charts” and there’s France’s absolutely bonkers June & July 2026 temperatures (see black line below). Bad things are happening. Fast.
That's 100% why I created leavesubstack.com -- got tired of re-hashing the points; wanted to make a simple 1-pager.

Those 24% of Soc Dem voters that would accept a coalition with FG, do they know what the Soc Dems are about? Same goes for 17% that would go in with FF & the 6% with Aontú. #IrishPol
Some juicy coalition preference data for @hmcevansoneya.bsky.social!
Seems like 2026 is the year the "Climate change will manifest as a series of disasters viewed through phones with footage that gets closer and closer to where you live until you're the one filming it" post lands for everyone.
"It's a wake with a decent playlist." I was lucky enough to live in Dublin during the recession. Events most nights of the week coz artists lived there & I was looking out over Dublin Bay for €800 a month, earning about 50k. I might as well be describing Joyce's Dublin compared to now.
"A city doesn't get hollowed out by too many visitors. It hollows out when too little of the city remains underneath them, when the thing they queued to see has been quietly sold off around them while they queued." Great piece on #Dublin by Conor McGuire in Western People.
Farmer who supplies hay to me and many others yesterday said his pastures have only dried grass and without rain very soon he will have to start feeding his hay supply to his sheep, in an Irish summer -- something he has never had to in his farming life

The problem is that the Aontu/II/Independent vote suggests the unhappiness may not necessarily be the kind we'd like.
The enshitification will continue until the wealthy have all the money
How many more times do this FFG & co gov have to show us what they are & what they really care about? Here's a clue, it's not equality, meeting climate targets, investing in public infra, providing social & affordable housing, diversifying the economy, meeting Intl obligations... #IrishPol
